Denied!

I found out today that Horizon BCBS of NJ has denied my VSG surgery. If anyone needs to know, they do still require a 6 month medically supervised diet.  I will have completed that on 5/8/08.  However, they do not cover the VSG at all as it is considered experimental. I plan on appealing and I know of others with my insurance who have been approved, so I'm hopeful.  Does anyone know of anyone else with BCBS that has been approved for the VSG?  Any advice on getting approved? Someone posted on the main board and surgery type boards offering help to people with insurance problems.  You may want to ask her.  She does not charge anything.

You sound like you have a good attitude.  I don't know of VSG approval through BCBS, but the BCBS NJ PPO I had did approve the RNY for me....considering that and the other people you know, it sounds like you might still have a shot. Keep us updated. pam
