Weight Loss?

Hi Everyone, I am very confused right now.  I keep hearing about people gaining the weight back.  How is that possible? I still can not eat as much as I used too, but as time goes by I do see that it does increase more and more.  The weight is coming off now as if am on a regular diet.  I  only lost a pound in  the past 2 weeks.  This really scares me!!!  Somehow I am starting to believe that the surgery is only a quick fix.  I think people think that once you have the surgery you don't have to worry about dieting again!!!!  I see that you still have to always watch what you eat.  I just want to say to anyone who is about to have this surgery don't think you are done with watching what you eat because if you don't after your first or second year  you will start to gain the weight back, you need to know that the surgery will help you but you need to change your life.  I hope I can continue  to lose, I only have 20lBS to go!!!  I am so afraid that I will start to gain the weight back in another year from now,  I am going to continue to follow OH, as my support group, So I never gain the weight back!!!!   Good-Luck to everyone!!!

You've got it right on Melissa.  The surgery is simply a tool.  And yes, the beginning is "easier" than later.  But this is when we need to get into good eating habits, a good exercise routine, etc.  We need to not start back into our hold habits of grazing, low protein, high carb ways as many did, myself included.   As far as the slow down - you can help boost it back up by increasing your exercise, changing your exercise routine, changing the foods you eat (say instead of mostly chicken, do a week with low fat ground beef or whatever), keep your body moving and guessing.  It helps a little bit. Keep doing what you are doing and you will continue to success!! Pam

losing slowly the last few pounds is very common. and yes, this surgery is just a tool. once you reach goal, you have to watch what you eat forever and ever.  thats life.  but hopefully along the way you will have learned new and better habits, and new ways to deal with our food issues. one of the things i have learned, is that i eat when i need to eat, and foods i want.  now true, i have nobody at home but hubby, so it is easier.  but very often, he cooks for himself and thats just the way it is. some nites, i feel like nuts and raisins for dinner, and thats what i have, my mother would die if she knew, not a proper meal in her book i worry always about gaining weight, but every day is a new day.  i am now 21 months out and my weight hovers up and down between the same 3 -5 pounds.  if i see it on the higher end for more than two days, i cut back immediately.  i have also been tracking my food on sparkpeople for the last six weeks.  it helps me see what im doing daily and where to cut back. a good place to go after a year is the WLS grads board.  lots of ppl there dealing with keeping the weight off and how they do it. hugs and continued success, jacki

I have heard a lot of people talk about going on Weigh****chers for maintenance. It makes a ton of sense if you think about it, their motto is "eat what you want in moderation". That sounds like a life plan to me! Plus, I HATE EXERCISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, I know that is a terrible thing to say, but at least you know how many calories/points you can have if you lead a sedentary life like I do. I have done WW in the past, so my girlfriend that goes to meetings now just bought me the new books and it hasn't changed all that much, so even though I am only 6 weeks out, I am using the books to make good decisions. And, I don't have a dumping problem at all and even though I am not a sugar person, ice cold Coca Cola helps my stomach sometimes. I am terrified of gaining the weight back just like you, but keep in touch, we will keep each other in check!
