I to have an appointment with Dr. Goldstein on Sept. 2 which yes took me 2 months to get. I didn't mind because I've been learning so much on these message boards about everything. I have some medical problems that my primary and pulmonary specialist both told me to go to him. My insurance said they would cover it if I meet the criteria (which unfortunately i do). My Doctors are already having me do the necessary tests they know I will need. I'm just hoping it goes a little better then I have read here. I did like him at the seminar (a little arrogant but I didn't mind that). I love the idea of The "New beginnings" support group. I just went on line and got a no interest credit card thru them. I'm definitely not in a hurry but my health is. Sorry for rambling but I just hope this will be a positive experience because I'M EFFEN NERVOUS!!! OIY!

Hi,

I went to Dr. Goldstein but I chose Dr. Bobila who works out of Virtua Mount Holly which is much closer to my house. I find nothing wrong with Dr. Goldstein but personally I went with who I was more comfotable with and I am an asthmatic who has been admitted in the same hospital where I hope to have surgery. I have always gotten great treatment from the staff at this hospital  so it worked out better for me.  I am in Burlington Twnsp. I have never heard about any bad experiences about Dr. Goldstein just the opposite. I was told he's very thorough which is a good thing in my opinion.

I belong to New Beginnings. I chose the gym portion and I am working with a personal trainer.
I love this gym and my trainer works me. I go to the support groups and nutrition classes.
New Beginnings staff have been great. I like the fact that there will be aftercare available to me.
I recommend you call New Beginnings when you have a chance to make an appointment around the same time as your appointment as Dr. Goldstein. New Begininnings is not just for support only they offfer a lot more and work with Dr. Goldstein and know what he requires.

It's a lot of work but the end result will be so worth it. It's okay to be nervous. The unknown is scary. Just keep positive thoughts and know that there will be people on your side helping you through all of this. You are not alone.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you lh. I did try and call for an appointment to New beginnings but they told me I have to wait until I am evaluated on Sept. 2. Were you able to get an appointment before you were evaluated?

puju,

I don't have the appointment with Dr. G until 8/30 (the end of the month) and I am so unsure about this whole thing. I have promised myself if I can diet all this month and get it together I will cancel the appointment....so far I have not cancelled the appointment. I also read that it is so important to have the best doctor and hospital for the best outcome for WLD. I do think he is good and yes a bit arrogant, but more importantly he can do the job.
If you think you are nervous, I paid a company to check his malpractice and discipline records to make sure there are no claims against him in both northern and southern NJ (he did say he came from norhern NJ while he was doing GBP and then moved down south to do only LB). He doesn't have claims against him for the last five years; so that is good news. Hope that info helps your nervousness.
So I will let you know how the appointment turns out and what I decide.

Trish,

I am so glad to hear you checked out his malpractice and discipline records. I feel even more confident that I am making the right choice. Thank you and good luck!! Can't wait to hear how it goes for you.

Hi Kim,

The appointment was the 29th...I gave you the wrong date. Hate to disappoint you, but I did have second thoughts and did cancel out. I just felt I wanted to try one more time by myself and if I can' t  do it by January, I am going to make another appointment. In the mean time, I am also looking into the doctors at  Pennsylvania Hospital.
I was planning on having the lap band put on sometime in June/July 09. That would be a better time for me with work commitments. So, that is why I am taking my time. Originally, I thought I would be able to get it done this July, but the appointment time was so long with Goldstein and then all the test....it was not possible...so I kind of missed my opportunity.
So, please let me know how you make out with Goldstein and New Beginnings.

Good Luck,

Trish

Hi Kim,

How did you make out with Dr. G.?  Are you going to have him do your lap band? Also, have you gone to New Beginnings yet?
Let me know all the detail. I made a new appointment with Dr. G for 10/28. You will be well on your way by then.
Good Luck,

Trish

Hi Trish,

I thought I sent you a reply (must of went to someone else OIY). Yes I loved him! He isn't warm and fuzzy but very nice, thorough and helpful. He answered anything we (me and Husband) asked. His receptionist (Pam) was so so nice and helpful and his nurse (Denise) went over everything with me she was also nice and helpful. I have my 1st appt. for New Beginnings on Sept. 22 which is about 2 hours. I have an appt with my primary Dr. tomorrow to get all my referrals and to go over the list of tests you need to get done. So far for me its been a really good experience. He said I could get my surgery as soon as 3 months. (if of course I finish the test on lists in time). He also would like me to loose 10lbs. which honestly I was 10lbs less about 3 weeks ago until I went on vacation so that shouldn't be a problem. He doesn't do liquid diet before surgery which I was happy with. I can't wait for you to go. Its nice to know someone who is hopefully using the same peeps you are. E-mail me anytime.

No I was evaluated prior to meeting with New Beginnings. I was not aware that they would not make an appointment without having one first I apologize for that. I thought it would be a good idea to have an appointment set. I met with Dr. Bobila and had to wait a few weeks to get into see New Begginings. So that's why I thought well since you're making this appointment with Dr. Goldstein why not have one already set with them. Maybe they want to make sure you are a candidate for
LBS first. Dr. Goldstein will give you a checklist which you will have to bring to them the day of your appointment.  Chris is my nurse and I really like her. She's responds very quick to my e-mails and meets with me monthly to make sure everything is in order. I am in the final preparations of submitting my packet to the insurance company so hopefully I will be approved.

Everyone will have their own opinions about where to go and exercise. I would keep an open mind about it. There are plenty of gyms out there which I heard are not that expensive one that I have been told of more than one time is Future Fitness. So while Dr. Goldstein requires you to be a part of New Begginings he does not require that you join the gym there too. For me the Rorer Center is what's good for me. I would tour gyms to find out what's the best fit for you.
