Thanks to everyone who has posted to my original post. I'm going to the support group tonight for the Rancocas Valley Group (Dr. Ing, Dr. Wasser). I am feeling kinda guilty for not being able to lose the weight on my own without having surgery. Can anyone give me feedback on the way they felt when first considering bariatric surgery for weight control? Thanks again. Michele
Hi Trish,
I started out wanting to have the lap band surgery but after going to a few seminars, putting questions out on the message boards, and doing some research myself, I have decided to go for the lap RNY. Every weight loss surgery comes with its own risks and benefits. I have just received approval from my insurance company and have scheduled surgery on 8/26. I am happy with the group I have chosen. My doctor is Dr. Wasser. I have attended several of their support group meetings and the physicians know their patients well. They have their own group message board and so many people to support you. If you'd like to attend one of their support group meetings, the next one is scheduled for 8/4 at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Burlington, NJ. They do several different WLS and are a Center of Excellence. Their website is SouthJerseyBariatrics. Good Luck to you and keep me posted as to how you are doing.

I am happy to report that I am doing fine. I haven't had any adverse reactions to foods or any complications thus far. I really like Dr. Wasser. Whenever I have a question, I e-mail him and he gets back to me within 24 hours. The day I was discharged I had a lot of pain. I got in touch with Dr. Wasser and he personally met me at the E.R. at Lourdes Hospital to make sure that all was o.k with my surgery. They took an Upper GI and Dr. Wasser was there to personally look at the screen while they did the test. Try to attend the Support Group meetings at Lourdes . . The next meeting is Monday, 11/3, at 6 p.m. You'll find all of the surgeons very helpful. Good Luck . . It is a hard decision but I am glad I had the RNY for various reasons. I am down 50 pounds and 3 sizes. It feels good. Best Wishes and let me know how you make out with Dr. Greenbaum.

I went to Lourdes in Burlington. I had a good experience there. The nurse who prepared me for surgery herself had the RNY approx. 7 years ago and looks terrific. The nurses and doctors in the OR were great. I had very good nursing care in the Intensive Care unit and when I was transferred to a regular floor. There was one nurse in Intensive Care who seemed a little disinterested but gave me the care I needed and answered all of my questions. I don't think these group of surgeons go to Lourdes in Camden. I beleive Dr. Slotman heads up the Bariatric Surgery in Camden. Good Luck with your decision.
