Do anyone of you guys use a Medical ID Bracelet for your RNY?

Hi Miriam We talked about that at our support group tonight.  There are procedures that should be done differently due to the gastric bypass.  I think one is the Endoscophy (where they put a camera down your throat - the spelling might be wrong).  Doctors need to know that your stomach is small or it could lead to problems. I had gotten one like a dog tag to wear in one specific instance (I march in parades and sometimes that can lead to dehydration or heat stroke) but after tonight's discussion it sounds like a good idea to have one on all the time.  You never know when something could happen & I believe it better safe than sorry. You can always ask you doctor for his opinion. Good Luck! Vicki

thank you for your respond, i think is a very important thing to have, but personally i didn't know that we should at all times wear one. i just order mine online, not very expensive and like you said, better safe than sorry. i think that a RNY is a serious surgery and it is best to let medical staff know in case of an emergency.

As far as the medical alert - yes if you get one, you should wear one at all times.  The idea behind it is to speak for you when you can't - so if you are in a car accident and rendered unconscious - what good is the bracelet in your jewlery box?

Some people put their surgery, their surgeon's number/name, and "no blind NG tube" NG tubes after RNY are supposed to be done only under fluoroscopy, or xray type guided imagery.
