quick question?
With the DS surgery, it's OK....
with the Sleeve (VSG), the theory is it takes up too much room, and doesn't allow for the proteins to be consumed..... also, it moves the food out of the stomach sleeve too quickly,
Sorry, I have no idea if either of these applies to the RNY..............
Hopefully, RNY'ers who are in the know will answer!

Hello Miriam,
Easiest way to answer this is logic - your pouch can only hold so much - so drinking will fill you up. Even before the surgery people say when you get hungry you drink wter to fill you up; its the same now only it only takes a few gulps of water to do the trick. Take your time, enjoy your food; chew-chew-chew and then wait 1/2 hour & drink - you'll feel great!
Miriam,
All of the answers you have received are correct. It takes up space which should be used for protein consumption. It lets the protein "slide" through a bit faster - so it travels down the intestines faster and doesn't get absorbed, and it allows you to eat more than you regularly would.
Best of luck

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
There are varying degrees of opinions on this matter.
The stoma itself (the outlet from the pouch to the intestines) can stretch a bit over time, especially if you overpack the pouch often and food is constantly squeezing through, or if your food is not chewed well and large pieces are sitting there.
As far as the actual pouch stretching, I have a hard time grasping this concept. There are TWO holes in your pouch (one leading into it from your esophagus and one leading out of it to let the food into your intestines) Based on physics or whatever science laws apply, if there is an outlet, then things will be expelled from excess force by whichever means possible. Therefore, if you pack your pouch way to much - it's probably just gonna come back up the way it came, while simultaneously going through the stoma into the intestines (a slow process).
