The liquid diet is pure torture - but it shouldn't post pone your surgery - BUT DON'T DO IT AGAIN!!  The liquid diet helps to clean out your bowels and also helps to shrink your liver. You don't want "leftovers" being in your intestines when they are cutting and reattatching them, and shrinking of the liver helps them have more room while they are working.  The more room, the easier it is for the surgeon, and allows them to not possibly have to do open vs rny.  Stay strong.  You CAN get through this and you WILL.  Good luck on your surgery! Pam OOOPS typo - should read open vs LAP rny.  Sorry!
Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Every doctor is different, and you should absolutely follow your doctor's rules.  That being said, my docs office only required one day of liquids before my band.  So, no, I don't think that a fish stick several days before will cause a problem. I know it stinks, but the  liquids after surgery is much easier than the liquids before.   So don't think you'll never make it.  You can!  Hang in there.

Thanks!! you have Dr Abtkin!! what a lucky person!! he was my original surgeon!! Hes a great person and made me feel very comfortable! hes also quite cute!! LOL anyways. i had to switch because my moms insurance told me they wouldnt cover me if i went out of network since a new surgeon all of a suddent went under her insurance. she works for RWJUH and is a RN. there were no surgeons who did the lapband out of her hospital. They day i left Dr Abtkins office the insurance called me and told me that a Surgeon just became apart of RWJUH and i had to swtich to him so the insurance would cover 100%. so thats what I did. Im 20years old if you are wondering LOL! My surgeon now is just as good because he was once apart of RWJUH about 6 years ago thats when my mother was taking care of his patients. now hes back there. hes a great surgeon also but i loved DR Abtkin! My surgery would have been Feb 18th if i would have stayed with Dr Abtkin but oh well.  thanks again!! Shana

I do like Dr. Abkin.  He did the surgery very well.  Getting a fill done has not been easy, though.  I"m 3 mos out and still don't have one.... So, perhaps you're better off where you are.  Best wishes for a successful surgery!
