Constipation

did you take the dulcolax by mouth or did you use the suppository?  The suppository really works well - but if you won't do that - the peri colace works wonders and that is by mouth. Pam

Senna plus at Shoprite. Make sure you are getting enough fluids per day and moving. That all helps.

My pharmacist ordered liquid colace for me.  The stuff is really nasty and I had to use it in my protein shake to mask the taste.  Whatever you do, do not take it straight.  I've never choked over medication in my life until I took that stuff.  It actually burned my throat. I have since moved to this product called Liquafiber.  Its a tasteless liquid.  I put a tablespoon into one protein shake a day.  I've been going regularly since I started it.  It wasn't too expensive all things considered.  I got it on line at diabeticfriendly.com.  They are not the fastest shippers but I did have it within a week. I was also at the constipated, impacted stage.  It got to the point where I was in so much pain I was crying.  Do not let it get that far!!  Good luck with everything.

I take reign as the constipation queen, both before and after surgery.   I will start with the caveat that you must speak to your doctor and this is not medical advice, just an accounting of my experience. I'm very honest about this topic: I was taking 6 colace a day, enemas, suppositories, and more.  No relief. Finally, I went to a gastroenterologist (Dr. Marzano of Red Bank Gastroenterology) and was prescribed Miralax, which is safe to take 1-2 times a day (according to my specialist).  It is the only thing that works for me and its now available over the counter.   If you like it,  get it at Costco, that's the cheapest price around. It is a non-stimulating, non-addictive laxative that does not give you diarreah.
