Surgery Scheduled - Nervous, Excited, Panic Stricken

YIKES!!!  I'm nervous and excited all together.   This has been such a long time in coming.  I was scheduled for the Lap Band in October, 2006, but during pre surgical stress test they found blockages.  I had to undergo angioplasty where they put in a drug coated stent.   I don't know if any of you have one, but I had to be on Plavix (a drug thinning medication) for a minimum of 1 year (due to possibility of stroke with the stent) before I could go off the medication to have any surgery.

I was previously approved by Horizon BC/BS in 2006.  But when I needed to get approval again, I was denied.  After screaming at Horizon for 2 hours (they transferred me to 8 people on the phone before I found one that actually knew what she was doing).  I finally got my approval again and am scheduled for the lap band surgery on Friday, March 14... less than 2 weeks away.

I'm nervous, I'm scared, I'm excited, I'm eager......   I'm so many things right now.   I'm almost 54 years old, with a 12 year old son, heart problems...  and I'm going in for surgery!!!!   AM I CRAZY HERE??  No... I know I'm not, but I'm scared.

Good luck with your surgery and I wanted to wish you a speedy recovery. You are not crazy, I think it would be crazy to not do anything about your weight and maybe end up with more problems. Put your trust in your doctors. Again good luck to you.

Hi Jo Ann, I am very happy for you, your perserverance is paying off and with that going for you, you are bound to succeed once your tool is in place.   I don't post on this board too often, but today decided to take a look see at what my home state board is doing and here I saw your post.  Just in case you are not aware of it, there is a great group of people in our age group on here, there is lots of support, though most have had RNY, it does not matter the procedure, just that you get the support you need. . .  so come on over sometime and take a look see at the Over Fifty Forum of OH.  It's a fairly active community of friendly folks, mostly women, but we have a few resident "brothers" as we refer to the men on there. Wishing you the best of everything and the nervous excitement is all a part of the journey!

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Joann,

A friend of mine calls this period "nervousitement" which is the excitement and the nerves all balled into one.  You will do fine, know that you have been through so much, and thank goodness in the pre admission testing they found those blockages - it could have been a totally different outcome if you weren't planning on having weight loss surgery with the eventuality of a heart attack.

Remember you made this decision BEFORE emotions of scared and nervous got involved.  you've done your research on your md and the procedure, and will make out phenomenally.

Can't wait to follow your progress with you.

Pam
