anyone advise about LENOX HILL HOSPITAL?

Hi All - this is my first message board post (I just joined last month).

I'm scheudled for surgery on Feb 25th (I love that I can say 10 days from now).  I just realized that my doctor (Dr Roslin) never mentioned attending group meeting before surgery.  Truthfully, he never mentioned attending group meetings after, but I figured I would do that on my own.

Does anyone have any advise on what to bring or if I should be aware of the care at Lenox Hill Hospital?

Michelle

Michelle, Welcome to the boards. I'm sure you will find the support wonderful here.  I don't have much to say about Lenox Hill as I didn't use them.  As far as what to bring (and congrats on having such a close date, by the way) Here's what I brought.... Pillow (nice to have plus a life saver on the way home) Sandals (for walking the halls.  I didn't have slippers w/ rubber soles so I did the sandal thing instead) Chapstick (SOOOOO wonderful for the dry hospital air!) Mouth Wash, toothbrush, toothpaste (they had the hospital kind, too, but I liked having "my own") iPod for relaxing/passing time Comfy/loose pajama bottoms and tops (my hospital didn't make you stay in the gowns.  Either way, you'll need it for the ride home) Feminine products (woke up day of with it!  And many people's cycle is messed up by the surgery and blood thinners if you get any, so bring some just in case) I brought magazine's - but was so wiped out and had visitors and what not - my attention span with the pain meds was that of a goldfish - so I never read them. Basically looked at the pictures once! As far as support groups are concerned - I am a HUGE advocate of support groups.  I believe I was/am a food addict.  And I treat this as an addiction.  I would not expect a drug/alcohol addict to get through detox without attending support groups and feel the same way.  It helps on your "bad days" to know you are not alone.  These boards, in my opinion, count to a degree.  I live 1 1/2 hours away from the hospital I had surgery at - and still try to make the trip at least every other month, if not every month, to their support group meeting because I have just fallen in love with the people there.  Find one that you feel you "belong" to in your area if possible and go!! Best of luck - we'll make room on the loser's bench for you - and let us know what else you need! Pam

http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgeon+profile+Mitchell+S+Roslin+nn.html Here is a link to Dr. Roslin's OH page.  If you scroll down you will see hospital affiliations.  Click on Lenox Hill to read reviews by his patients. I am a pre-op patient of Dr. Roslin.  I have attended one seminar at Lenox Hill, but have not met Dr. Roslin yet.  I have heard only good things about Lenox Hill.  Let me know if you learn anything different. Good luck with your surgery, you're in good hands with Dr. Roslin. Leah

Thanks leah for the link....I saw those posts when I first joined (in fact, that is the page that came up when I googled Dr Roslin - no one in his office told me about this site).  I'm taking 3-4 weeks off from work, so I'll def post an update on how my stay at the hospital was.

I met both Dr Shah & Roslin at the info seminar - Dr Shah conducted 95% of it. Both of them seem really nice.

Best of Luck...let me know when your date is

Dr Roslin is a most experienced doctor, consulted with him in 2005, and seeing him again next week, I can only have a revision like DS due to prior surgery.
If you come to the DS forum and ask about lenox hill you will get answers. many DSr go to Dr Roslin.
