brand new here
Hello all. I just registered and this is my very first post. My name is Lesley and I live in central Jersey.
I have been researching WLS for about a year, and I have finally decided to get serious and do it. I feel nervous and excited and everything in between! I'm going to an informational meeting tonight at the Barix Clinic in Langhorne, PA. I'd love to hear about anyone else's experiences with that facility and the surgeons and staff there.
I am nervous, but knowing that this message board exists is helpful!

Hi Lesley,
I want to be the first one to welcome you. I had surgery on 2/4/2008, 10 days ago, I've lost 22 lbs already. This is a very good surgery but you have to be completely sure about it.
I wish you the best, does informational meeting are excelent and i hope they could be of help to you.
God Bless You,
Miriam
Lesley,
WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME. It's a ride of a life time!
I used Barix Clinics - and can't say enough about them. I too am central jersey (port monmouth) and it's about 1 1/2 hours for me. Their facility is top notch, their surgeons are wonderful, nursing care is second to none (in my opinion) and the surgeon's truly care about you as a person. I must say, you do need to stay on top of them - they have had some issues with office staffing recently and you need to make sure they get your stuff and process it properly. I personally didn't have a single problem with this, but a few friends of mine did.
Oh, if you use Barix, stop on over on the pa board - I spend MOST of my time there. The NJ board is GREAT people and GREAT support - but it's nice to have so many more people who have used barix there.
No matter WHO you choose (I strongly reccommend finding a surgeon YOU feel comfortable with. If Barix doesn't sit well with you, or the surgeon or whatever, keep looking.) I wish you the best of luck!
Pam
Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
Thank you all so much for your welcome! The seminar was good -- a LOT of information, but it did a lot to make the surgery and the post-surgery seem much less scary. I'm going to see my PCP and talk more about it, and also get a surgeon consultation scheduled. I'm very excited!
Pam, it was Dr. P who did the seminar, and I was very VERY impressed with her! If my insurance okays it (and I think they will -- I have Blue Cross PPO) then I think I'd want for her to be my surgeon. I was amazed at how knowledgeable she is, and how she took the time to answer each and every question people had and talk about benefits vs. risks. And the facility was very nice too. I got to the meeting and I thought "Ugh! Chairs with arms, my nemesis!" but their chairs were actually roomy. I thought that was very thoughtful of them.
I'll be around as I continue to research and make this decision. Thanks again.
Lesley
Lesley,
My wife & I had our surgery done 1 year ago. We originally looked @ Barix. Due to the long length of the story as it turned out with us (not well), I wont post it all. Please feel free to email me. I will give you my phone # and explain it all if you'd like. You really may want to hear this. Good Luck in your Journey to a happier healthier you.
