Am I the only one?

Am I the only one looking for a therapist?  Is there no one else undergoing therapy?  Boy, now I really feel like a loser, and not in the good sense.

Why are you looking for a therapist?

There are LOTS of people in therapy after this surgery - and no you are no where NEAR the only one....and far far far from a loser. I did not respond to your earlier post because I personally am not looking for a therapist at this time, have not been to one, and do not know of any good ones.  A bunch of my friends go - but unfortunately they are all in Pennsylvania so that wouldn't have helped you either. Best of luck and do what YOU need to do.  There are lots of people who lose weight without surgery - and you aren't the only one who chose that option, either.  Everyone has different ways of coping (or lack there of as the case may be) so what is right for you is absolutely RIGHT for you and only YOU know what that is. Best of luck, Pam

I love my therapist, I've been with him for years. He saved my marriage, and now he is working with my teenage son as well. But I'm afraid he's just too far for you to travel. He's in Ledgewood, NJ. Isn't that far for you? Big_Ideas

Honestly, I think therapy should be a requirement for this surgery!!  I really do not think you can be successful, long term, until you deal with your demons, so to speak.  I was in therapy for about 3 years - 2 years prior, and 1 year post, working on my "issues".  I don't go right now - I got to a point where I feel good, and really had nothing to "talk" about - LOL.  But I will go again if I find life getting too complicated, and I find myself turning back to food for comfort. How far are you willing to travel?  I see a therapist in Mt. Laurel - I think that may be a bit of a hike for you, though. Good luck!!

Can your surgeon recommend anyone who deals with eating issues?  My surgeon recommended someone to me who deals specifically with eating disorders and bariatric surgery.  She is in Highland Park.  I've only met with her twice, she is not taking on new patients long term and only agreed to take me o n short term, leading up to my surgery.  Her name is Myrna Frank.  Send me a PM if you want her phone# (I don't have it handy right now, or look her up online if you're interested in travelling this far.)  Good luck with your search! You are definitely not alone, as food issues are definitely an issue for most of us. Leah

I just started seeing someone. You are not a loser for seeking help. It's all part of a self improvement process.
