Finally home after gastric bypass surgery + complications
I had laproscopic gastric bypass on Jan 07th and the next day had to go back in for emergency surgery due to a leak, in which i had to be opened from just under my chest to just above my belly button.. Gastric juices spilled inside me causing an infection and my kidneys lost function for a while. I was on a ventilator, unconcious and in a very bad way for about 2 weeks. 3 weeks later I am home and doing much better, walking and eating full liquids. It's great to be out of the hospital but I've still got a long way to go. I've got a nasty bed sore and an open wound on my belly that needs to heal. It's times like this when you learn the power of prayer and who your true friends/family is. My wife has been by my side the entire time and continues to act as my nurse at home changing dressings, etc, she has been amazing, I am a lucky man.
I knew that there was a risk of complications going in but you never think it's going to happen to you, ya know. I am still glad that I have had the surgery since it's going to help my health long term. I have already lost about 60 lbs and hope to be 1/2 the man I currently am by this time next year.
