Healthnet 6 month wait
I amcurrently in my 4th month of a 6 month waiting period required by my insurance company and hoping to have the surgery by spring.
My question is my friend had the lapband before Christmas - hasn't had her first fill and is eating completely the way she did before the band. This scares me (and her!) and I am wondering is this something she has experienced only or is this common.
I hate to think I am waiting for 6 months and I will be just as hungry afterwards.....
Thank you!
From my understanding, the band doesn't work you, you need to work the band. She's eating like she did before, because she chooses to eat like she did before. You have to change your habits. The band, nor gastric bypass, does not magically change your habits or your life. It's not a miracle pill that causes weight loss. It's a tool that causes restriction. If you do not treat the band "with respect" then it will not help you. I know someone with a band. We went to a party recently. She ate cake (slider food) and drank at the same time. She wonders why she's not losing weight. HM?
"Eat the way she did before the band" Meaning quantity or type of food? Quantity can be helped by filling once she goes.
Type of food - eating healthier is obviously better for you all around - but you don't get sick if you eat the wrong foods with the band. So, if she's eating her normal high carb/high fat/low protein type meals....then she's doing herself more harm than good. Ha*****anging is hard, but necessary.
Good luck!
