Slider Foods

When we're first out, we may use gravy or another condiment to help food go down.  However, as you're further out it can turn a happy protein into a meanie slider.  What do I mean?  Coating meat in ketchup (sugar) allows it to slide through the pouch, causing some post ops to consume more.  Last night at the Lakewood meeting, we discussed salads.  When you eat a salad, the lettuce turns to water, making a soup in your stomach.  As we discussed this, I realized, wow, when I eat a salad with protein, a normal dieters meal, I'm actually slushing that protein through the pouch.  I wondered why a Wawa salad gave no satisfaction, and now it all makes sense.  I'm guilty of sliding. The point of this is that slider foods can lead to overeating and weightgain aka bounceback.  The 5 day pouch test reminds us to eat dry foods, minimal mayo, and not drink before and after eating.  It's been a real eye opener.

im not sure i buy into that theory angela.  to my mind the trick is to limit the sauces, etc.  i know for me, i cannot get some foods down to this day without some type of sauce.  and things like red meat, i cant do at all. ive given up on some dense proteins, such as salmon, cause even with some sauce it sticks in my pouch.  i think everyone has to reach a happy medium in what they do in the long run. good luck, hope to see u soon, jacki

Hey babe -- what was the total weight loss from the five day pouch test?  Is it being sustained once you went off?  Let me kow -- I want to give this a try real soon. Nannette

I lost 5 lbs water before I started. I actually eased into it.  Then an additional 10 lbs during the test.  I have been maintaining the loss for a week now.  I would like to maintain this as my normal weight, which is the low end of normal for me.
