Five Day Pouch Test

So at the OCWLS meeting, Nannette mentioned the Five Day Pouch Test.  I did some research and figured I would give it a shot and report back to the group. Information about the test can be found at www.5daypouchtest.com Today is my first day of protein shakes.  I'm holding on, no cravings.  I am hungry, but that's probably because for lunch I grabbed an EAS carb control shake, which is only 100 calories or so.  I am now sipping on some green tea and had a big glass of water.   I have been maintaining my weight for two years, but I am 10 lbs higher than I want to be.  I have lost that 10 lbs on 2 occassions, once when I was really sick and when I had my brachioplasty.  I want to see if I can use these 5 days to refocus and attempt to lose the 10 lbs and then maintain that 10 lb loss.  Plus with my upcoming wedding any bit helps.   Angela

Angela, Two of my friends have recently used the 5 day pouch test with some GREAT results.  They were both pretty far out - I believe one is two years or something close to that. Way to go on refocusing yourself!! Pam

Pam, Thanks for the post.  Breakfast and lunch were a breeze, but it's 8:50 pm now and I'm feeling pretty miserable.  I take it as a sign that it's a good thing I'm doing this.   Did I say pretty miserable, I meant super miserable.  I think my biggest mistake was watching Food TV for 3 hours.  I miss my salads and protein.  I keep thinking, if I just have some meat, that's not bad. Alas, I just need to make it through today and tomorrow.  I keep reminding myself it won't kill me.  :) Angela

Someone said to me at one of our meetings, and I try to hold on to this thought at those  times when it seems every cell is craving food and you only ate 30 minutes ago Hunger, in the United States is NOT an emergency situation. (How Zen of me) How many times in a day do we say, we are starving. I just do not think I know what true hunger is. I have never gone to bed hungry

Roberta: You rock!   Chris:  Thanks for helping me through! Well I made it through day 2, which was MUCH easier than day 1.  I realize that this could be a good thing for someone who is off track.   I'm 5 below my normal weight as of today. I know it's water.  I'm curious if I will take off the other 5 and then be able to maintain it.  Doing this test brings back memories.  I remember doing shakes for 2 weeks and then saying, WOW I can't wait to have puree. I actually felt full tonight at dinner when I had a shake.  That was an interesting experience.  I cannot wait to have eggs for breakfast tomorrow.  I did find myself grazing, and I think I broke the habit this week.  Go me.
