Gastroenterology
Hi Chrissy,
When I went it was just a regular appointment. Nothing special they asked lots of questions and they had me schedule an EGD to look at my stomach .Nothing too difficult. I m not sure if they do the EGD thing for everyone or just for me?
good luck,
Amy

It really depends on what your surgeon requires and what your gastro requires. If you have a long history of gastro problems, I would assume you may need something like an endoscopy or colonoscopy, but probably not everyone. It may be just a whole big question and answer session. I actually didn't have to go see one prior to surgery, so let us know what you need from them! Best of luck on your appointment!

Hi Chrissy1974,
As far as I know in order to get an approval from any Insurance company you need to see a gastroenterologist, so he can send you for an endoscopy. This is a test in which they check your stomach and abdomen for any abnormalities. The results of the test will go to your surgeon, if the results were good than you should definitly be appoved for surgery by your Insurance company. The first visit with the Gastroenterologist like everyone said is just a lot of questions, paperwork and the scheduling of the endoscopy. I hope that everything turns out good. Good-Luck!!!
ross and i didn't have to see the gastro doc either
cardio/pulm/nut/psych was all we had to do for insurance purposes -- that was in 06 and i had Aetna and he has BC/BS Horizon
