Hi friends!        Another question that I don't know the answer to but I'm sure one of you will. Why is it that you should avoid caffiene? ( did I even spell it right?) I had a cup of coffee yesterday without even thinking and I just drank it....no adverse effects.....but was curious as to why the no caffiene rule. Thanks. I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday and blessed New Year.                                                             Hugs, Judy

Hi Judy I'm not 100% sure but I believe caffeine is a diaretic - and since we are trying to get alot of water into us, you don't want something that's going to make that worse. Maybe someone else will know for sure! MissVic59

hi judy caffiene will make you hungry caffiene will  dehydrate you  it won't kill you  -- it won't ruin your pouch -- it just isnt' a wise choice to have caffiene on a regular basis -- but a couple of cups of coffee a day isn't going to matter too much -- just keep up with your non-caffiene liquid intake to stay hydrated  that is why when people go out drinking for the night they are so dam thirsty the next day -- the caffiene in the alcohol dehydrates you  hope this helps :)  take care roberta

Really, Roberta? There's caffeine in alcohol? I did not know that! See....you learn something new every day.

Hi NUT at Morristown told me I could have caffeine if I really really needed it, but not to on a regular basis.  It is a diuretic.  So, if you do have it, you can't count it towards your daily liquid goal!

The most concern is the diuretic effect and the risk of dehydration. I drank regular tea or ice tea because I did not like the taste of decaffinated tea.

Yep, everyone is right ;-) My nut also told me that if I do have caffeine, not only can't I count it as my fluid intake for the day, but I have to drink an extra of the same amount of decaf fluid on top of my 64 ounces.  So if I have a 20 ounce cup of coffee one day, I should, in the same day, drink 84 ounces of sf/decaf fluid instead of 64.  Once in a blue moon isn't gonna kill ya! Best of luck, Pam

My nutrionist also told me that caffeine inhibits the absorbtion of (I think) calcium. That, plus the diuretic effects the caffeine have, make it something that is better left out of your diet. It certainly won't hurt you once in awhile, but don't make it a habit.
