Surgery Jan 2, 07. When does it feel better?
Hi, I'm new. Just had the Lap Band surgery a few days ago and I'm on the all liquid diet. When I first got out of surgery I had a lot of pain and pressure from air in my abdomen and chest. The doctors said that it would get better soon. But I'm still so uncomfortable. I keep burping and the burping hurts so much in my esophagus. Is there anything I can do? Does anyone know when it will get better? Thank you so much,
katherine
Yep, you just have to keep walking and walking and walking. And then when you think you've walked enough, get up and walk some more. It doesn't have to be outrageous like 30 mins at a time, that would be very difficult anyway to say the least. But if you are sitting on the couch watching TV, walk around during the commercials. I took about 3 walks a day in the beginning outside, but the weather was nicer then as well.
Every surgeon and surgery is different (I had RNY) but my surgeon did clear me to take Gas-X chewables right after surgery even though I was on clear liquids. That, besides the liquid tylenol and pain medications, were the only things I was allowed to take. if the walking doesn't help completely, you could give that a try.
Give it a good week though before you feel really better. I know, at least for me, 6 days post op was the WORST day out of the lot for me - I thought for sure something was seriously wrong. But then on the 7th day, things changed completely.
Best of luck, and remember, call your surgeon if you have ANY questions and are concerned. That's what they are there for (and what we are here for too!)
