High BP surgery scheduled for Xmas eve..
I have surgery next Monday yes Xmas eve.. I went to pre- admissions yesterday and did the blood work and that turned into a 5 hour ordeal... I did the blood work and chest x-ray, then when I sat down with the admitting nurse she took my blood pressure and it was very high, and every time she took it which was about every 15 minutes thereafter it got higher. I had my daughter (12yrs) with me and she had been with me all afternoon since we got there at 3 I told it wouldn't be long I would get her something to eat as soon as we left, anyway the nurse ended up calling the dr on call . He told her to take me to the ER by the time I got to the er my BP was 178/116 I just wanted to get something to eat for my daughter and pick up my other sonfrom work who would be out at 8 now its 615 and I am trying very hard to stay calm, the nurse guy was very nice, told me to calm down alot my daughter said my face was getting very red I was very irritated cause I had to go.. they gave m some different BP medicine thank god and that worked, if not they would have tried intravenously and in worse case scenario I would be admitted.. now I have to contact my primary which I already did but havent rec'd a call back .. I am really stressed out.. just alot of bs.. timing really sucks.. it was a long and painful afternoon/ evening.. I tried the protein shakes and cant stomach them so I have been drinking chicken broth, sf jello and sf ice pops.. I dont know how much longer i can do this..I feel very stressed out.. exhausted to the max
Lilly,
Sorry to hear about the BP. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. What Type? Dr Greenbaum did my Revision on 10/22/07. He's a wonderful doctor with great aftercare. Are you from NJ? I live in Northern NJ about 1:45 min from Dr G office.
Best of Luck on Christmas Eve what a date !!!!

Heal quickly Sorry to hear about the BP going up. when they were getting me ready the day of surgery i started having chest pains but after about 1/2 hr i was felling better i guess from me thinking about the surgery and what could happen i was putting added stress on myself. Dr. Greenbaum is a good Doctor and does look after you. Good luck and have a speedy recovery
This is very stressful which isn't helping the bp obviously - what a viscious cycle. Sorry you had to go through all this....it will fall into place though! Just as an FYI, watch the broths. Many of them are packed with sodium and will make your bp rise - I know you can't have too much else right now, but it might help. At the very least get the low sodium kind. And you don't have to do this much longer - you've got the weekend to get through and that's it. Take it one moment at a time. it's MUCH easier on clears after surgery! Best of luck we will be thinking of you on Christmas eve. Pam
