Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro
Hi Lily,
I was just banded by Dr. Wasser at Lourdes on 11/20 and it was GREAT!!! I was also same day surgery. The staff and nurses were wonderful!!! Especially MiMi, she was a total sweetheart. I thought, overall, the experience was top notch, as far as hospital stays go. If you have any more specifi questions, feel free to reach out.

I was banded by Dr. Wasser in October 2006 at Lourdes Willingboro. It was an overnight stay and a great experience. The staff there are very familiar with all the WLS procedures and the Docs have there office just across the street. Dr. Wasser saw me later in afternoon on the day of surgery, then again the next morning before I left. THEN, just this past October Dr. Wasser removed my gallbladder at Lourdes. It was a same-day procedure - in at 6:00am, home by 11:00am. It was one of the most pleasant experiences I ever had at a hospital - from the pre-op testing right through my discharge. I'd recommend it to anyone.

My sister used to work in their ER and would say iif she was having a heart attack she would drag herself out of the hospital in order not to be hospitalized there. On the plus side, she thought that the long term nurses strike that happened there provided a shale up of employees that resulted in better nursing care.
She thought the hospital had a very high rate of hospital acquired infections...
I met Dr. Greenbaum, but ultimately did not use him, I did not like the fact that for my first appointment, three other patients were present. I hated that he calls himself Dr. Thin.....I wasalso concerned that a not insignificant number of people who were posted on this website's Memorial page were Dr. Greenbaum's patient's....
I think the hospital staff has greatly improved since the strike. My stays there both times were very short so I can only go by my experience, which was terrific.
Now for Dr. Greenbaum. He's one of 3 doctors that make up South Jersey Bariatrics. He started SJB and initially called himself Dr. Thin. He doesn't refer to himself as that anymore - at least I've never heard it. Since so many people are interested in WLS these days, the Drs. are extremely busy. Sometimes (and they explain this at the orientation meeting) they may schedule your initial visit at the Drs. office as a group visit so they aren't repeating the same things and answering the same questions to each individual. That's just for the first visit - visits after that are of course personal. I, personally had my initial visit alone with Dr. Wasser - not as part of a group. BUT, not very many people were interested in the Band at the time so I guess I was lucky in that respect.
Every practice has a certain percentage of deaths due to surgery. If you notice the dates on the memorial page - those deaths occured a few years ago and I know for a fact that two of those were due to the patient's own lack of responsibility. They were told to go immediately to the ER to be evaluated and they decided to "wait and see what happens" because they didn't feel like going out or some similar excuse. At some point you have to take some responsibility for your own well being.
Lourdes does now have its own Bariatric wing and they are waiting (any moment now) for their "Center of Excellence" to come through. I think for a small community hospital, that's pretty good. I would still recommend them for bariatric surgery. My gallbladder surgery went perfect, but I was only there for 5 hours and Dr. Wasser did the surgery (my bariatric surgeon). I live 5 blocks from Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury and I hear people say the same things about it - its the last place they would go if they were sick. I guess every hospital has its day....
