How Long Does It Take?

I asked this same question on my post "I was denied" but I thought I would just post a new topic and ask the same question. Does anybody know how long it takes for an appeal to go through? I was denied surgery by my insurance company, but my doctor's office is appealing on my behalf. Somebody from this forum told me that 9 times out 10 when  there's an appeal, the insurance company usually gives in because they hate to go through the appealing process. Has anybody gone through an appeal for bariatric surgery, and if so, how long did it take to have it approved. Nereida

not for nothing -- but i think you better get started on that dr supervised diet -- if that is the reason that they are denying you then i don't think there is any way around it -- and i'm pretty sure it is 6 consecutive months of dr appointments with weigh in and they will want the dr.'s notes -- it's not like they are saying you do not need the surgery -- they are saying that you are not following their criteria  good luck roberta

I have BCBS traditional plan and I need to follow a six month dr. supervised diet.  I was told that there is no getting around it.  However, the insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office told me that there is a 3 month fast track.  I would have to be on the supervised diet for three months AND exercise 3 times per week supervised by a physical therapist.  I don't know if insurance would have covered the physical therapist. I chose to do the six month diet, but look into the three month option and see if it is available to you.  Leah

Hi There, I read an earlier post of yours about your denial.  I have BCBS POS, and was required to do the 6 month supervised diet, no way around it.  I hope that is all that you have to do.  I was dissapointed and frustrated at first, but the 6 months went quickly, I did lose about 35 lbs and got my approval within about 4 days of submitting my paperwork.  Best of luck with your appeal!
