Nasty, nasty cold

I couldn't get a cold at a worser time. I go for boot camp tomorrow and I've had a very nasty cold since Thursday. I went for my pre-registration at the hospital, yesterday, and they were concerned about my cold. Although I'm feeling much, much better my chest is still congested and my head feels stuffy. My primary doctor gave me antibiotics and I've not been to work since Friday. I was really feeling horrible on Thursday and Friday, but because I'm a teacher I couldn't go on Monday and continue abusing my vocal chords. If I don't get rid of this cold my lapband surgery will have to be postponed until I'm over it. I'm doing everything I can to make my self feel better. I've done a lot of resting and I talk as little as possible. Has anybody in this forum ever ended getting sick just before their surgery. Please share your experiences with me. I feel kinda bummed out right now. Nereida

Nereida, My surgery was cancelled due to a thyroid problem two weeks before surgery.  It's a horrible, paralyzing feeling. A friend of mine had hers post poned as well due to bronchitis just a week or two before the scheduled surgery. She was quite bummed herself.  But know that it's for your best, what little consolation that is.  When you have surgery it is very difficult to breathe properly afterwards due to your abdominal muscles being messed around with - and add congestion to that and you are setting yourself up for a large pneumonia and prolonged healing time. Keep resting and taking your meds - and let us know what happens.  It's hard to see, but things do happen for a reason.  When our surgeries were cancelled a friend told us it was "a pebble on the beach" which felt more like a boulder on an ant, but he was right.
