HI i am getting the DS on 11/26 and it is getting close and i am getting very nervous and even thought of should i be doing this because i am very scared of dieing and leaving my wife and 3 kids behind. See My family has been having a lot of bad luck as of lately. See we found out around 2 months ago that my nephews little boy Raymond (6 years old) has brain Cancer and it is where they can not do anything for him and now they gave him 1- 3 months to live. So i have been praying for him and the rest of the family that nothing else happens, well i guess my praying for the rest of the family isn't working because we found out that my wifes neice's little boy Dylan (3 years old ) has Cancer in his belly and he is now getting treated at (CHOP) Children Hospital of Philadelphia. Well with all of the bad news and bad luck it just makes me think even more!!!

Eugene, First my prayers and support to your family. Secondly - being nervous is normal.  You are supposed to be!  However, you have to look back at your decision making, your surgeon selection, the reason you wanted the surgery in the first place.  Where will your wife and kids be 10 years down the line, with your deteriorating health?  How will they cope with a dad who can't walk let alone play?  How will your wife handle not being able to go out with her husband, or worse yet, have to go see sick family members alone.  I'm sure everyone could use your support.  And you could use theirs. At our support group meeting we spoke of all of our fears going into surgery, how we reacted, how we handled the stress.  One of the guys said that he thought back to all of his research and reading and determined he was "sane" then when he made his decision and his nervous feelings and wanting to possibly cancel the surgery were his "insane" moments. Really think about everything and decide what is right.  This is such a MAJOR life change - but it's only a decision you yourself can come too. I wish you the best of luck Pam

Thank you All very much. It is not really the Doctor that i am worried about it is all of the Bad Luck that we have been having coming our way. I guess maybe a just needed a little pep talk. Leslie, If you don't mind me asking, Did you or your friends have the DS surgery Open or Lap???? and Why? I am having Open because when i first went to Dr. Greenbaum he said it would be safer that way but i really did want it done Lap because of the scareing with the Open but i want to be safe then sorry.  Again thank you all.

Eugene,  First, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Second, you remember that we bot are at the same bariatric group.  I had the lap band done today and am home, recovering.  Lourdes was AWESOME!!!!! Our doctors are different, mine is Wasser.  But the experience was not stresfull AT ALL!!!! The folks at the hospital(other docs, nurses, etc..) wer so kind and caring.  You will definitely be  in good hands!!!! Let me know if you want my phone number, if you'd like to talk more about it.  Take care. Blythe
