Hi friends!        Well just to update everyone....I am feeling much better after my appendectomy last Sunday and have an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow for my follow-up. Thanks for all your love and support.         Now a question which may seem a little weird but here goes....Everyone says that we (WLS patients) don't do well with beef. Tonight I made my family a roast beef dinner and tried some. It didn't irritate my stomach. I chewed it very well and even dipped it in a little ketchup. So now I'm afraid that my surgery isn't working because I didn't get sick. Is it O.K. to occasionally eat beef or should I avoid it? Please help if you can. Thanks for the support in advance....you guys are the best!!!!                                                Hugs, Judy

Judy, It doesn't mean your surgery isn't working at all.  Some people can tolerate beef but not chicken.  Some people visa versa.  Some people tolerate sugars, some don't.  Some tolerate fat, others don't.  Some tolerate hard boiled eggs, but not soft boiled eggs.  It's very individual.  Also, be aware that because you tolerated it this time, you might not let's say next week.  People have described this as "Russian Roulette with food" from what I understand.  I am not on real food yet, so we'll see how that goes. Good luck. Pam

I do great with beef.....  It's my 'protein' go to food, when I'm tired of fish.....   steaks, burgers, even jerky.    AND I've lost 120 + pounds.                   Mary C

Quite honestly, I can tolerate everything that they tell me i should not be able to. I can eat Beef, Apples, Asparugus, Brocolli etc & I am down 122. If You can get it into your head, chewing is more important then any other band rule you can get down a lot of 'forbidden foods' As long is the food is moist & chewed to a liquid state I can have a small portion of anything. Best of luck- Chris

hi judy eat beef every day if you like :) beef is good for protein and other nutrients -- and there is nothing wrong with eating it  -- both ross and i can eat beef with no problems -- please don't go by what other people can eat and not eat -- especially on message boards -- everyone is different and most people only post the bad and not the good -- meaning that they use the boards for venting purposes -- the only thing so far that irritates me is milk -- not all milk products -- just a glass of milk -- other than that if i chew something til i can't chew it anymore then i can eat it -- i'll be 1 yr out on thursday and i've been at a great weight for a few months now and have no trouble with my labwork and most importantly to some people is I NEVER LOST ANY HAIR :)  follow your surgeon  follow your nutritionist take your vitamins  drink your water eat protein first  exercise stay educated support others  you will do great :)  take care roberta

Hi Judy, Everyone pretty much said it in a nut shell, everyone is different.  I myself have not tried any kind of beef except for ground beef because it is easy to chew.  I am waiting a little longer because I am not sure yet if I will be able to chew beef into a pureed form.  If you were able to eat it then good for you.  Remember everything in moderation and you won't go wrong.  I wish you continue success on your Journey. No meeting unless you include me too!!!  :-) As for the beef, it's one of my main staples, I can eat any kind of beef as long as I chew it well.  I find that rare is very easy on my pouch and doesn't require as much chewing.  I enjoy prime rib best at this point, but I also eat ground beef at least 2 times a week.  I make my own sloppy joes quite often and I also make meat sauce and feed it with pasta to my family and I just enjoy it by itself or sometimes with a few pieces of ziti.  Yum, yum.

As usual, everyone else pretty much hit the nail on the head.. At the beginning the only thing I could tolerate was chicken.. Now, chicken makes me sick.. Everything is a trial and error.. .So far, beef is okay for me, today that is.. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. .lol... Seriously, just be careful and listen to your NUT... Good luck... Lisa
