Hi all, I'm new to the boards and looking forward to having lapband surgery once I jump thru all the BCBS hoops!  Curiously, I haven't seen anyone who used Dr. Mehta on the NJ board.  He has a large practice in central NJ and a well attended, monthly support group. Any feedback for me? Leah

Hi Leah, I'm a patient of Dr.  Mehta's.  I had Lap RNY almost 4 years ago (wow, the time does fly!).  He is most excellent at what he does.  I love everyone in the office, too. Kathy

Welcome to the boards!  I had surgery in May and absolutely LOVE Dr. Mehta.  I think he knows his area of expertise and his staff is just as fabulous as he is.  So good luck!

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Thanks for input everyone.  Can you tell me how his follow-up care is?  Aside from offering a support group, do you feel like he is personally interested in your success on a one-to-one basis?  Or do you feel like you are on your own to sink or swim? Leah

Leah, His follow up care is top notch.  I have had some complications and he has been right on top of everything.  You are never left to sink or swim.  Even after 4 years, my most recent trip to see him (and a surgery too) I was impressed with his practice.  He does take the time to call you right back if there is a problem that the office can't answer - trust me, I called him from the ER at midnight because I was not getting my pain meds and I couldn't believe he called me back in 10 minutes!  The ER I went to really sucked and I tried for 6 hours (in pain) to get the meds he prescribed and the nurse (it was really busy that night) kept telling me "Hold on"  "Be right back" and 6 hours later I finally got some relief.  Had surgery the next morning and went home the day after.  (Bowel obstruction).  He's one of the few docs out there that take the time to listen. Hi Leah, I am also a patient of Dr. Mehta's and I am so glad I chose him as my surgeon!  I dont feel like he rushes me out during my post op appts.  He really seems to care - we have conversations non surgery related, which makes me feel good - this is someone I am going to have a relationship with for a long time, and it is important to be comfortable.  I find him very supportive and encouraging.  I really can't say enough.  Gloria and Lulu are great, and you will meet a bunch of great people at the support group meetings. Jenn
