Thanksgiving

I am soooo excited about the holidays this year - because I KNOW I won't over induldge.  it's physically impossible, and the last thing I want to do is interrupt my family time from being in the bathroom puking. That being said, I can't say I'm not excited.  I have been, and still am, on full liquids.  Starting Tuesday I move to pureed foods.  Not at the thanksgiving party, because I'm gun shy about trying new things when I'm not home, I  do plan on taking some turkey home with me (mom already said there will be plenty for me!) and pureeing that with some low fat gravy and having my own little pureed dinner later on that night.  It will certainly be a treat.  I'm also looking forward to having a spoonful of mashed taters while there.   I'm certainly changing already - as by this time last year I was planning how I could space out two parties (my husbands family and my family) so I could eat two full meals of mainly the carbs (stuffing, taters, stuffed mushrooms, desserts) without unbuttoning my shirt - and now the big thing I want is pureed turkey, and just a taste of that!! Have a lovely holiday. Pam

I WILL DO WHAT I HAVE DONE THE LAST FEW HOLIDAYS SINCE MY SURGERY. I WILL PUT A TASTE OF MOST EVERYTHING ON MY PLATE, AND EAT THE PROTEIN FIRST, AND THEN AS MY POUCH ALLOWS, TASTE SOME OTHER THINGS. I WILL NOT EAT SWEET POTATOES, OR CANNED CRANBERRY SAUCE OR ANY SUGARED DESSERTS. I WILL MAKE MY OWN CRANBERRY SAUCE WITH SPLENDA AND A PUMPKIN MOUSSE THAT I MADE LAST YEAR.  IT USES SUGAR FREE VANILLA PUDDING, AND LITE COOL WHIP AND CANNED PUMPKIN.  YOU KNOW WHAT, EVERYONE LOVED IT!!! HAPPY TURKEY EVERYONE!! HUGS, JACKI

I've seen Thanksgiving day become the trigger for a whole season of 'stuffing'. Not unlike the experience of doing well on a diet, having a bad day, and abandoning the whole thing. Given the restriction that WLS offers I would suggest that you can do limite damage in any one meal.  The trick is do not punish yourself with thoughts of failure.  This self incrimination as you know just leads to further misbehavior. Better yet,  make a plan and stick to it.  What a joy to accomplish what you set out to do. And remember, WLS does not change one;s family or friends.  If only it did! Dr. Mike

My philosophy is..it's just food, it will always be there, no need to go crazy, at my job we had turkey day dinner for lunch the other day it was yummy what little I was able to eat, but I was able to enjoy that little bit and that was good enough for me.

Hi, I have a philosophy that nothing is off limits. I am going to try to simply make good choices & follow the rules. Protein first, veggies, and THEN some taters and stuffing. :) If there's Apple pie later, I will just steal a small slice of the apple  from my husband without all the sugary coating just to have a "taste" of sweet. It feels so good to be in control, instead of food controlling me!!! Bernadette
