Any other ideas?

Tomorrow is my brother's graduation party.  I'm soooo excited for him - he's been down a rough road and this is great. NONE of my extended family knows about my surgery - and I'm certainly not going to tell them on my brother's big day as it would take away from his accomplishments because my family is a big gossip like family. Now, it's at a reastaurant and is mostly a ****tail type party with finger food served to you and then a small buffet w/ fruit, cheese, salad, lemon chicken, salad.  And then of course dessert. I am sitting with my parents and brothers, who KNOW about the surgery and know where I am as far as eating plan (full liquids)  That way I'm not sitting with people who will specifically take notice that I'm not eating. I also plan on drinking a protein drink on my way there, and keeping either another one in the car or a yogurt in the car for the way home or for a snack when I'm there (as it may be 4 hours)  But I would probably have to eat that in the car when there so as not to stick out and get a whole bunch of questions that I don't feel comfortable answering right now. Is this an adequate enough game plan?  I KNOW it will be hard to be surrounded by so much food so early on.  It will be a tough battle no matter how I look at it.   Any other ideas? Pam

Hi Pam! Congrats on making it to the "other" side! If any questions come up, you could always use the "stomach isn't feeling too well at the present" excuse and you just wanted to be careful and enjoy your brother's accomplishments and not have to worry. I think the protein drink on the way is a great idea and having something for the way back as well. You will probably be caught up in the festivities and not be too hungry anyways. Good luck!

hi pam i agree -- i think i would use the "upset stomach" story line or "my stomach can't hold that food today" which won't be a lie haha  have a fun time :)

Pam you could carry a little plate with I don't know, cheese or something and a "drink" water w/lemon or something while mingling.People with see you with a plate so they shouldn't bug you and both hands will be full. And you can always tell people o I ate you just didn't see me.

Thank you all. I think if any questions arise I am going with the bad tummy idea.  It's not a lie, I would be sick if I ate that!  lol!! Pam

Hi,      I had surgery 6/21 and was at an all day July 4th party. Food was there all day....      I brought 2 yogurts with me, had the protein drink in the car in case I really felt hungry... and made sure to bring drinks I liked to drink with me- Propel and Diet LemonAde. I could not and still cannot tolerate plain water post-op. Heck, coffee still doesn't taste good to me.      I think your plan is a good one, but bring a drink you like in your bag. You can always empty it into their glassware.....Most resturaunts do not serve unsweetened iced tea or diet lemonade....or bring a Crystal light  to-go packet to add to water.....          Since they will be serving fruit and cheese...there might be something you can put on your plate. The 4th of July I ate black cherries that I took the skins off of....YUMMMMMMMMM     I have a feeling you are going to be so excited to be out and about and in control of your eating- you will not be too sorely tempted.       Also remember, the least said the better...no big explanations are needed if you are not eating....and someone asks........      Have a GREAT TIME!!!!      Bernadette
