I have not been able to develope a passion or like for the gym.....My goal is to go there 4 times a week however I have no done so as yet.....I have gone there every week..on average 2-3 time a week......The problem is that I hate the gym I have been going there for over a year now and I still cannot like the place......Okay, so why not go somewhere else?  My job pays for the membership and I cannot afford at this time to pay separately.......Also, this gym is 5 min from job which is 1:20 min from my home....so I cannot make up the time on the weekend.....during the summer it is not so bad since I can go to the park in my town and walk but it is getting cold now and I hate the. cold..... I am really just so frustrated and think that I will fail because of the excersize thing and maybe that is why my weightloss is so slow..... My question is what do you guys all do for excersize?????? how do you get to like going to the gym....well, I am off to the gym now anyway.. angela

hi im not a gym person either.  i try to walk for 20-30 minutes a few times a week. that works fine for me. in the winter i do try and get to the gym twice a week and i do the treadmill. thats it as long as you are eating and drinking properly the weight will come off. exercise is a good bonus, but dont beat yourself up about it is my thoughts. good luck, jacki

Hi Angela: I am not a gym person either.  I take two dance classes a week (tap and jazz) and try to get in atleast 1 yoga class a week.  I find especially with dance, I will not miss, because than I will be behind, since we are always learning something.  it is great fun and a great workout!  I highly recommend dance to anyone who hates the gym like me!

Angela you are doing the right thing!  Going to the gym even though you don't love it and talking about your feelings. My view on exercise is that it's importance lays in how it changes your mind set not in how many calories your burn. Regularity is more important than intensity! Keep up the good work, the pounds will come off.
Please measure your success with many yardsticks not just the scale!  Dr Mike

I am not a fan of the gym - but I make it a little fun each time I get there. I also promise myself that I only have to do ten mins, if I still don't feel like it, then I can leave.  But never once have I gotten off at that ten minute mark - it just doesn't make sense to do that once I'm there and on a machine. Do anything you can to get there - and as one other said, frequency is more important than intensity.  I have been told it's more beneficial to exercise 10mins a day for 5 days than it is to exercise for one hour once a week.  I don't know how true it is, but I follow it because it gives me inspiration. I also know that I will have baggy skin anyway after the surgery, and I believe that going to the gym will help that issue.  If i don't go to the gym - I will never know if the saggy skin could have been partially prevented and I don't want any second guesses.
