Ongoing Stomach Issues
I'm eight months out from surgery and am still having off and on again nausea, poor appetite and "foamies". The surgeon was not too concerned, but I was wondering if anyone else is or has experienced this. My weight loss is great, but I was told I'm not eating enough. Hard to do when you feel like this !!! Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
If you seen my posts I have continued to have an uneasy feeling since I had my surgery almost 4 months ago. I had an Ultra sound done of my abdomen and Gallbladder, and everything looks okay. So the only thing I could come up with is that am either drinking or eating to fast. I also understand that I can't digest food the way I used too, so you need to make sure the foods you are eating agree with you, I was hardly eating myself because I wasn't feeling so good.
Then my PCP gave me a prescription for Prilosec OTC, and I have been feeling much better. I found how that it helps heal your new stomach. I was also told that my surgeon should have gave me something Immediately after my surgeon in order to help my stomach heal, he did give me pepsid, which is like prilosec, but I didn't like taking it, because it made me feel funny.
I never understood that it was to help heal my stomach. Well anyway like I said the prilosec is helping and I do feel better. Did your surgeon prescribe anything for you after the surgery? Also have you had an Ultra sound done yet? I am eating alot better now too. Well I hope this information was helpful snd I hope you feel better. I will be praying for you. Good-Luck.

hi
i think this is just a long process.
i am also on medication now, switched from prilosed to prevacid since it turns out i have an ulcer at the site where our new connection is made after the surgery. i wonder if i should have been taking it earlier on. my gastro doc says this is very common after rny surgery.
as to nausea, i had it for months and months. i found that sucking on a peppermint altoid sometimes helped.
also i eat very differently now. still at 15 months out. i dont eat red meat, other than chopped beef in chili. chicken has to be very moist.
and even with all the care i take, every once in awhile it just goes wrong. monday night i had leftovers from a wonderful meal i ate out sunday and man i was sick, sick, sick for hours. sometimes cant figure out why.
good luck
ps i have lost 120 pounds and feel awesome 98% of the time
hugs, jacki
and your picture looks wonderful too!!!
i too eat differently now -- i make sure that whatever food it is is going to go down and not back up at all -- i chew it until it is like applesauce like my Nut suggested -- i do not drink when i eat at all -- i try to keep my food moist with shake n bake or gravy or something -- i stay away from carbs at dinner -- basically dinner consist of a porkchop or a piece of chicken or some meatloaf -- when i am done with my protein intake there is very little room for anything else such as rice, pasta, potato or whatever -- that is fine with me -- during the day i'll pick on cheese sticks, an apple, yogurt with fruit in it, hard candy,-- for snacks i'll have wheat thins or fudgcicles -- sometimes at night i'll make 2 slices of cinnamon/raisin toast with lots of butter -- yes, real butter -- lots of it
do you take any kind of antacid since your surgery? we were prescribed rantidine and told to take it for at least 6 months after surgery to help with acid and healing and stuff
i think if my surgeon told me to stand on my left leg and touch my nose with my right ring finger for 3 months after surgery i would have done it haha
it is really really important that every follow what their own personal doctor says to do -- they do these types of surgery every day -- we only do it once -- they have more experience than we do :)
good luck and i hope you feel better
