Stomophyx Completed

Hi guys -- just wanted to keep those of you who are interested up to date.  I had a Stomophyx with Dr. Garber in NY on Tuesday of last week.  The upper endoscopy showed that my pouch appeared normal for 4+ years post RNY at 70ml capacity, but that my stoma diameter was 2.5cm which is larger than it should be.

Dr Garber took 17 sutures (or pleats) in my pouch and stoma area, and although the feeling of  restriction is different from RNY, there is a modest feeling of restriction back.  The night before surgery, I weighed in at 197.6 and this morning weighed in at 189.2 -- a loss of just over 8 pounds.  It's a start.  I hope to lose enough to be able to maintain a goal weight of between 150 and 160 pounds. I need to be on a Stage II RNY diet - only liquids and puree foods for 3 weeks to a month in order to allow the sutures to heal and form scar tissue without disrupting them.  It is harder than it was after the RNY, but thus far, I have been doing ok.  The head hunger is still there, but certainly not as bad as it was before the revision.  However, I had been hoping to have that "food is distasteful" feeling like I had after the RNY -- but no such luck.

I returned to work after only one day- very mild discomfort, not much to speak of.  Here's hoping this works for me!

I'll keep you all posted during the next few months!

Thanks for your support. Hugs, Nannette

Nannette, I'm glad everything went well.  I hadn't heard of this - why was it done?  Is it because you hadn't been losing weight, or was their a complication that I missed?  Glad the pain wasn't to bad. Continued best wishes! Pam

Nannette, Thank you for posting this information. I did not know what the procedure was called but I had just heard of it. It is nice to know that something can be done without being too invasive. I am glad you did well and are losing weight again. The weeks will fly by and before you know it you will be able to eat regular stuff. Good luck. Amy

No, they claim it is too experimental -- procedure and tool used was just approved by FDA in March of this year.

Cost was $9,000+ total
