Medication

Any suggestions for swallowing meds, I have to take 2 pills a day and I can't seem to find something to cover the taste then I gag. Tried in juice applesauce and water ice and pudding. Any other suggestions I keep upchucking after I take it.

I'm not sure by what you've written if you are crushing the pills, or trying to swallow whole?  Did you have problems swallowing pills before surgery?  More info on what exactly the problem is might help with suggestions.  From what you've written, it seems that you've covered all the usual things... You may have to change the medication or supplement. One thing that I've found when something tastes nasty is to NOT breathe through my nose!  I will swallow the pill ONLY BREATHING (both inhaling AND exhaling) through my mouth several breaths after I swallow the med, then swallow something tasty - again breathing through my mouth only.  If I don't allow the air to get into my nose, I can't taste what my mouth had in it.... Thanks Irene, My doctor told me for at least 4 weeks can only take capsules whole other won't break down as fast. I have no problem swalloing pills but when you crush they are horrible

with prescription meds please consult your doctor or pharmacist -- most prescription meds can not be crushed or  split in half -- they will lose their value -- most are time released in some way any vitamin or mineral can be crushed or split or watered down or whatever -- no vitamin is time released  i never crushed my meds at all -- since day 1 i have taken my pills as i always have -- by the handful with a gulp of whatever -- never soda tho -- always try to use water tho -- some chemicals in juices will break down the medication before it hits your stomach and this may be the cause of the yucky taste for some -- not all --  good luck to you :)  roberta

I had trouble with pills for the first few months after surgery and bought a pill cutter and cut them in 1/2. They went down better that way. I could not stand the taste chopping them up in food. Now I can take them whole with no problem. Good luck.
