I was just wondering if there were books out like a "Bariatric Eating for dummies".  I'd really to try to get an idea (similar to the weigh****cher menus) of what I should be eating.

Thanks,  I appreciate the help.  It seems I was well prepared for everything else except what to do after.

Lori, The Eating Well After Weight Lose Surgery was my bible from my puree stage until today.  I also found WLS for dummies to be great.  I have read about 20 of the books out there and these two are the best, IMHO. Jeanne

Books that I LOVED: Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies (includes menus) "The Real Skinny on Weight Loss Surgery) (Not to many menus per say, but AWESOME information and written with a great sense of humor) "Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery" (ALL recipies.  Haven't tried them yet, but they give you instructions on how to prepare it for your family and then how to blend how much of it etc for your various stages of weight loss) "The emotional First Aid Kit" or something like that...it's about the surgery choices, the emotional issues we all have, the lack of support from people who are not up and up on the surgery, ways to talk to people, how to get through surgery etc. Good luck. I also had the lap band done but you are further along than me.  Each doc requires something different, but mine is 1 wk clear, 2-3 wk, full liquids, 4, pureed, 5 soft foods.  They want us to follow a high protein, very low carb, sugar free diet.  No carbonated beverages.  You should always have a protein each meal to get 60g in a day, eat 3 times a day, taking at least 20-30 mins to eat each meal.  No red meat in the beginning.  Chicken, fish, turkey, eggs, veal, healthy soups, etc.  About 1,000 cal or less a day.  People do eat carbs like pasta but very small amounts.  You can even follow the weigh****chers menu but you probably won't even be able to eat that much if they help you.  Just up the protein and cut the carbs some.  Most carbs should come from fruits and vegetables.  I even said when I get to the food stage, I might join weigh****chers to help out with menu ideas and stuff.  The South Beach diet is probably the closest.  Again, this is after the post-op diet for the healing of the stomach.  Probably week 5 or 6 and after about a week after fill.  Check with doc.  I hope these quick guidelines help.  Alot of people substitute a meal too with a protein drink.  There is an other website lapbandtalk.com and there are great ideas on there too.  Again, this is the diet plan my doc has us follow and may not be what your doc wants - always check with yours first.  Good luck

Thanks, my doctor has similar requirements.  I was a weigh****chers leader years ago and know the program but as a busy mom of 2, working full time with a two hour commute, I really need a cheat sheet so I'm really glad there are people on the board who have had the same experience and are willing to share their wisdom with me.
