Has anyone had their basic metabolic rate done by a Dr. I have been having the hardest time loosing weight since June. I lost 80 lbs. initially but have only lost 4lbs. since June. I know all the things I need to be doing I just need to know if anyone had the official test and if it helped with your WL? I am looking for someone in North Jersey but would be willing to travel to have the test.

I have not. Have you been checked for thyroid problems?  If so...have they checked your med levels.  If your thyroid is low, this could be the culprit as well.  (This is my "soap box" if you will for awhile as I just diagnosed, and am seeing the weight come off a little easier now that I'm on meds and what not) Good luck with the BMR, and let me know what it's all about once you find out! Pam, Nice to meet you. I am surprised they diagnosed you after surgery. Usually that would be the first test when you have a weight problem. I am going to make an appointment for some blood work. Thanks, Donna

Hey donna, Sorry it took so long for me to respond.... Well, first I am preop.  My surgery was cancelled due to this problem, my surgeon found it 2 weeks before surgery when I went for my routine PATs. Secondly...you are right...it is one of the first things they test for.  BUT....I have been overweight since preschool, literally.  And they did blood work about 3 years ago and it was fine as far as my thyroid was concerned, and I never developed any symptoms so I never was re tested.  And I'm one of those people who only went to a doctor when I was REALLY sick (and considering I work for an emergency deparment, in all honesty, most of it was taken care of there because the docs there would write me prescriptions as I needed them so I didn't have to go to my docs office) so as far as routine physical stuff...well...you would have to go to get it done, huh??   I know...bad patient, even worse nurse!   So, thanks for your concern, nice meeting you of course...and can't wait to hear your outcome. Pam

I haven't had my BMR done (which I'm surprised about), but my surgeon has me going to a metabolic specialist, Dr. Rothkopf, in West Orange. I can give you his contact info, if you're interested. Tami

Here's a link: http://www.obesitytreatmentcentersofnewjersey.com/727404.htm l. It will open in a new window or tab. He's at 1500 Pleasant Valley Way, and his phone number is 973-324-1200. He gave me a prescription for blood work (CBC and vitamin panel) and I go back to see him on the 23rd. Tmai
