I am just beginning the process and am worried sick over the insurance ordeal...has anyone used United Healthcare? I have read some horror stories about some companies but haven't heard too much about UH.  Has anyone had any experience???

2001 I attempted to get the RNY with Aetna, it was a disaster from the get go.  So much so I left Aetna and switched to UHC. This Past October I started the process again and was approved in 3 days by UHC for the lap band. Of course, its all about your employeer and what they are willing to pay- UHC worked out great for me Best of luck Chris

Hi.  I have Oxford, which is part of United Healthcare...I'm sure they have different standards but I would guess they are somewhat similiar.  I had no problems at all once I found a surgeon who accepted their insurance... the approval process was easy.  I don't know exactly how long it took because the surgeons office took care of all the details and I don't know when they actually applied for approval.  I wasn't planning on the whole pre-op process only taking a month or 2...I think your expectations have a lot to do w/ how you will feel.  I had my consultation on August 2nd and by Sept. 24th I knew I was approved.  I really moved quickly on all my pre-op testing though... Good luck! Heather

since your surgeon doesnt do the DS, he wont tell you about it, it is the third optional surgery choice you should consider, visit the DS forum and read about it to see if it is the right choice for you.
