I had my surgery on 8/28 and was released from the hospital (St. Clare's Dover) on thursday with a lot of pain.  It is now Sunday and I feel pretty good.  I still have some pain when I get up and down but it is getting better.  I am getting in more liquids everyday.  The hospital staff was great, i just had a really bad room mate and she did not have RNY.  The first night, I did not even sleep because she was snoring like a train.  the second night was a little better but she got on the phone around 10:00 pm and did not get off till around 12:00 and she yelled the hole time in her own languge.  the nurses finall told her she had to get off the phone.  I was happy so then I feel asleep.  Did anyone have a lot of back pain after leaving the hospital? I am just so happy to be on the lossing bunch.

I am so glad to hear from you!  I am glad you are doing well.  I am happy  to hear a good report on the hospital.  Turns out I will be having my surgery there as they are not getting as many Morristown dates.  Try getting up and walking as much as possible.  Some of the pain is from built up gas. Having a room mate is the worst thing about being in the hospital.  I was alone most of the night after my hernia repair then they moved someone in.  I felt self conscious because I happen to snore like a train but they made so much noise when they moved her in I did not sleep much after that.  Save me a spot on the bench!

The hospital staff was great.  Some of the assistants Nurses would get me out of bed every two hours to go walking which was very nice.  I have been walking around alot in the house.  I will be going for a walk later with my sister once she gets hear.  So that should really help.  I will save room right next to me on the bench.  you will be very happy with the surgery once it is done.

I am glad to hear you are doing well.  When I had my gall bladder out I would walk around the house every couple of hours.  I was in too much pain after the hernia repair to do that but I am expecting the RNY to hurt less. I cannot wait to get the surgery done.  I could have had it done in September but am still a little sore from the hernia repair.  Also I wanted to do it at a time it would be easier for our daughter to fly home from school.

thanks!  My niece (4 years old) took me for a wake and she told me I was slow.  I told her that I was still in some pain and she looked and said it will feel better when we are done walking.  We just walked around my parents back yard.  I am already feeling better.  Thanks for all the well wishes.

Hi Michelle, Congrats!  I had terrible back pain in the hospital and once I left.  I was not comfortable in bed or in the chair in the room.  My back was all sorts of wrecked by the time I came home.  Then, it hurt at home because I was living in our recliner. I used a heating pad, which helped a bunch. It probably only lasted through the first week or so that I was home. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Jenn

Hi Michele, Congrats on your surgery and being home, trying to do what you need to do.  I'm not sure what part of your back you are speaking, but I've heard others complain about gas trapped in them, as part of this procedure is being pumped up with fluids and so on. . .  the best medicine for gas pain is to move about, try getting up about once an hour and walking a little bit, I've had 4 abdominal surgeries, so though my RNY is not scheduled until Oct, I'm familiar with the drill, walk, walk and the gas finds a way to get out! Take care and keep that bench warm!
