I am your surgery sister!  I just got the same date.  Your doctor used to be partners with mine.  Good luck to you!

Hi Sis, that is pretty cool about us having the same rebirthday!  May I wish you congratulations and good wishes for your upcoming event as well! When I began actively pursuing this surgery, I was going to use the practice your doctor belongs to, as my cousin lived in Ogdensburg and used his associate, Dr. Abdkin, and loved him, so I wanted to use him as well. . .  she died last Spring and I put the idea on the shelf, but earlier this year when I started pursuing the surgery again, I knew I needed to be close to home, on the off chance I had an emergency, I did not want my surgeon 2 hours away; anyway while researching I found my surgeon had been affiliated with Dr. Abdkin and her credentials were exactly what I wanted and I remember my cousin mentioning that there was a female doctor in their practice who seemed very nice too, so I went to Barix for my consult and she is everything I could want and I am so happy, I feel as my sweet heavenly angel, Roselle Volpe-Black, directed my footsteps to where I will be beginning a new healthier life and thin too! So let's stay connected through this process! Best wishes,

We will definitely have to keep in touch.  I met Dr. Adkin at my follow up visit after my hernia repair (I had to have this repaired prior to having WLS).  He was very nice.  I really like both doctors Adkin and Bertha.  I have heard good things about your surgeon.  I agree about being close to home. I think if you are having a problem you are more likely to go to the doctor if it is a short ride rather than 2 hours away.  I am sorry about your cousin.

Laureen - Congratulations on having your date. You will find this to be one of the best things you can do for yourself. The nervous feeling is very normal. Two suggestions for the times you are questionning your sanity in making this decision: (1) take three before pictures. One from the front, one from the side and one from the back. Every month repeat the pictures, same poses and, if possible, in the same location. You will not believe the reinforcement you get looking at yourself in something that was tight the month before, of seeing your rear end shelf start to shrink. I also wrote comments next to the pictures and still look at them and laugh or marvel. (2) I started a journal a couple of days before the surgery and wrote every day for more then a year. It wasn't profound and it wasn't always lengthy but it was amazing to go back to from time to time to see my progress. At the end of the first year I went back to the corresponding date the year before and Wow! what a difference. The best of luck. You go girl!!      Wilma

Wilma, I want to thank you for taking the time to write and I will do exactly as you suggested, think that is a very good thing.  I'll be keeping my profile up to date as I make this journey as well, so stay tuned. . .  (lol)! P.S.  I love the way you spoke of the 'rear end shelf'. . .  that's pretty much the way my Mom described my rear, as she was an apple body type with no ass and thin legs. . .  (lol)!

Hi Barb, Thanks so much for the heads up, yes the summer went fast, though I must say, I spent it busily getting things done for the eventual day that I am now leading up to, plus my trip to Germany and NC this summer. . .  the summer's just naturally are chock full of things to keep busy with, but don't they seem to go faster and faster the 'older' we get (lol)! I'll be sure to get in touch and, of course, I'll keep posting on my various boards what is going on with me. . .  do you attend the support groups at Barix?  If so, than hopefully, I'll see you at one soon! Take care,

Lisa, That is awesome!  Are you filled with the same nervous anticipation that I am?  Where is it that you are having your surgery?  I certainly wish you the best of things and agree about our journey's offering others some inspiration some day soon, as there are so many who have gone the way before us and offered us their's! Take care,
