IS THE "GAS" NORMAL OR WHAT?

I had my surgery (Lap Band) on Wednesday, Aug. 15 and was discharged the following day.  I have already had bouts of nausea and vomiting (was told it's from the anesthesia) and am full of gas. (the noisy kind).  The toughest week was  the wk before surgery and the liquid diet, consisting of that strained creamed (lo fat) soups) jello, spiked with the Isopure so I'd get my protein. Well, after a few days, I was so weak, but I stayed the course and of course, came down with a sore throat, the day before surgery.  The anesthesoligist put me at ease and said no problem the surgery would not be postponed.  So while I was waiting for my official discharge notice, I placed a call to my primary doctor and asked for him to call in a Prescr. for this cold I had.  Most likely it was the start of my usual boat of bronchitis.  I'm on meds now to clear up the infection but when I have to cough up the phlephm, it is quite uncomfortable.   Luckily for me I did not have to hail a cab to come home from the hospital.  The trip from A/c Regional Med Center to Brick was going to be a costly trip, but my co workers and supervisor, greeted me in my room minutes before I was discharged.  Ya see, people do care.  I've had flowers and get well cards and get well wishes galore. My surgeon, Dr. Onopchenko did a marvelous job and I am so grateful he was at the helm. Along with my primary doctor in Lakewood, Dr. Joseph Morales, who has been very supportive and a very caring doctor, of course who was not in the O.R. lol  but was equally as helpful to me right from the start of this journey to a more healthier life. Funny thing. I started out at 257 lbs. and the morning of the surgery, I was at 231.

The gas is so normal. Unfortunatley is it because of how the surgery is performed. In order to see everything they fill you up with air. So for everybody gas is a problem after the surgery. You could try gas x strips and walking that is what seems to help for me. Best of luck.

Hello Marlene~ I responded to your personal message, but I don't know for sure if you will see it, it usually takes me a few days before I see the little note on the corner of the screen Our next support group meeting is tomorrow night, Monday, August 20. 7:00-9:00PM at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood.  I can drive you if you want to venture out and join us.  Like I told you when we met, support is key to making this surgery work for you.  You will have so many questions as you make changes and get further out from surgery.   Your gas is totally normal, that was the worst part of recovery for me, the gas pains were worse than the incisions.  They do work themselves out though, but you need to WALK, WALK, WALK.... rest for a few minutes and then WALK some more! Our next support group meeting will be at Community Medical Center, the first Friday of each month.  Same time 7:00-9:00PM.

I can drive you to the meeting, either or both, we both live in Brick.  I would feel honored to be able to help someone else traveling on this path.  So many people helped me, it would feel great to give back!  You can call me at 732-492-4143.
