Hi Everyone, I had asked a question about this before, this is to anyone who had open RNY, my incision got infected and it is healing now.  The incision opened up at the top to release the infection.  Now It is supposed to close up on it's own, does anyone know how long it will take to close up?  I can't wear a bra because that is what irritated the incision in the first place.  So until it heals I will not wear one.  I have to wear a big jacket over my shirt, and I am tired of this.  Hopefully someone can tell me how long it will take to finally close up so I can wear a bra again. Hey Melissa, I had the same problem, although my infection opened below the pant line. I kept it covered with a STACK of gauze pads (that might help with being able to wear a bra as it adds padding and reduces friction). I think in total it took about 6 weeks to completely heal. The infeciton opened on te top and was almost healed, then opened at the bottom, then opened from the top again and healed in a little over 6 weeks from start to finish. Have you seen your surgeon? Mine kept a VERZY close eye on the infection, and kept cleaning it out so there were less complications. I hope you heal quickly. Good luck and if there is anything I can do yo help, please feel free to let me know. Thanks, Jamie

Hi Jamie, Yes my surgeon is keeping a close eye to.  The infection is gone now it is just opened at the top but closing up now, I will figure out some type of cushion so I can wear a bra again, thanks for the info. Melissa

hi melissa this might sound silly - but have you thought about buying a tube top?? not even sure if they still sell them -- it's been years!!! but it will give you a little bit of support - and give you that 'hidden' feeling under your shirt so that you don't have to wear the jacket :) or else i would go with a ton of gauze too :)  good luck roberta

You might also want to try a sport or leisure bra... something that  might be a little "softer" in that area. Happy healing!  I didn't have open rny, but I had an infected incision from my c-section, and it took a long time to heal (but probably a larger incision than yours, and under my hanging belly, to boot!) Hi Melissa A week after surgery, I developed a seroma at the bottom of my incision - my opening took 2 months to close completely.
