Hi everyone.. I am new here. I had WLS back in the mid 80's and gained everything plus a lot more back. I am at a different place in my life now (much better place) and am thinking about looking into if there are proceedures that can be done for those of us who had WLS before that didn't work out? What are these revisions I see posted? I heard that some surgeons will do the surgery again if it didn't work for you the first time. Is that a revision? I also thought about looking into the lap band. Last time I had stomach stapling. Any advice you all can give would be highly appreciated such as proceedures, local doctors ect.. Thanks, HM

hi there i think your best bet is to see a physician who does rny and lap band and see how they feel about your situation.  the procedures they do today are much more advanced then what was once done. i would also post on the main forum board, as you are likely to get responses from a much larger segment of the population. good luck, jacki

Hi, I am getting the Duodenal Switch by DR.David Greenbaum as soon as i get all of my evaluations done. I see you have DR.Greenbaum listed as your Doctor what has he have to say?? If you haven't been back to him i would make an appointment with him and let him tell you what he thinks and he does do the Duodenal Switch as i said above that i am doing and i know he does revisions. I hope i helped a little. Good Luck  Eugene

hi HM welcome aboard! i had friends who had the surgery back in the 80's also -- but i haven't seen them in ages -- i agree with miss J that you should ask your surgeon and see what advice you get there -- there are alot of people who get revisions after having the surgery so long ago -- good luck to you :) and if you need anything just shout out to all of us -- there is a great bunch of people here!! take care roberta

Hi and Welcome to the NJ Boards, Yes, there are surgeons out there that do revisions, which is what they do for people who've previously had WLS who have stretched out their pouch.  As you probably did with the old, just do your homework as to the surgeon's background and experience with the different procedures, on the side here is Other NJ Resources (you might check out PA as well due to the area you live in) and look up the different Bariatric Surgeons and then check out what their patients are saying and so on, the more you know the better your options become.  I spent 2 years researching before I took this step and an now in the process of waiting on my final verification from the insurance company and a date, which I should have in the next couple of weeks. I wish you the best and remember, "the only stupid questions are the one's you don't ask!"

There is also a Revisions Board here on OH that you should definately check out.  Assorted revisions available, depending on your previous surgery and how much weight you've gained.  Check it out.

Good luck.
