Ok so here is my question...   I have several tattoos, are they a lost cause after surgery?  I have a low back one and am wondering if Ill end up looking like a CHarpea rolled in paint?

Hi, I can't say what the technical effects are, but I do have a tattoo and can speak from personal experiance. I have a tattoo on my lower back (a tramp stamp as it is called). It is a pretty big piece, over 6 inches long. I was about 215lbs when I got the tattoo. I had RYN in March and was at 252 when I went in for surgery. I am currently at 172. I think my tattoo looks better then it did when I first got it. It looks darker and sharper then ever before. With that said, I don't think that I would feel that way if my tattoo was on my stomach, or arms, as those areas have extra skin. I think it all depends on what you have and where you have it, as it fits to your body style. If you have anyquestoins, or if I cna be of any further help, please feel free to contact me off list. Hi, I asked this question at the seminar and the response I got back was depending on the size and placement of the tattoo would determine the affects of WLS on the tat.  You could possibly lose a tattoo if you require plastic surgery after weight loss.  I hope not either.   ~Mike~ PS there is a pic of my tattoo on my profile.

that's a great question, I'm looking to get a low back tattoo soon, but I think I'll wait till i've lost some more weight.

That was something I wondered about too, as my 22 year old, fairly large rose tattoo needs recoloring and I have postponed doing so because of the location and thinking that it might look shrunk up after surgery, not to mention, I intend to have plastics and if it indeed survives WLS, it might not survive plastics, I can always get a new one in the future. . .
