Happy Anniversary to Me!

One year ago today, I was in the OR at St. Barnabas hospital, having my insides mixed up! I could never have imagined how big an event that was at the time, but I am absolutely amazed every day with the gift the decision to have this surgery has been for me. As of this morning, I am weighing in at 155 pounds - 140 pounds less than I was the day of surgery. I am wearing a loose pair of size 10 Gap jeans and getting ready to do a 4 mile walk with my kids. I'm celebrating with a pair of underwear from Victoria's Secret - a big change from the big slice of cake I would have celebrated with a year ago. I haven't had an easy year - emotionally, it's a struggle when you lose food, which has been your best friend. I had a small bowel obstruction, which caused me to have emergency surgery and spend a week in the hospital. I lost a lot of hair and my fingernails got very soft. But here I am, no worse for wear, and feeling great. I am going to enjoy this new life to the fullest today. And say a prayer of thanks for the wonderful Dr. Michael Nusbaum, who brought me here.

Hi Anna,

Congratulations!  That is wonderful to hear, the hair will in all likelihood reappear, providing you are doing the right protein and vitamins routine, as people I know who've had the procedure, had the same problem and their's came back.   So once again Congrats on doing a fantastic job with you WLS, I hope to be posting my success on here one day as well!

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Congratulations Anna!! I, also, on this day a year ago walked into the doctor's office for my first visit.  Scared and sad-realizing that I wasn't able to fix this problem on my own.  Years of  weight loss and regain had to stop and I knew (I knew this with my very being) that this was the answer for me. Today. although not as far out as you, I am post-op, thin again, healthy, and happy! The stars must have lined up just perfectly for each off us on Aug 1st!! I wish you continued good health!

Happy Surgiversary to you! You have done a fabulous job with the "tool" your surgeon gave you!

In August of 2006, I walked into my first support group for my surgeon, Dr. Jean-Baptiste, and that day changed my life forever. I am almost 9 months post op, almost at goal weight and I feel great! My only minor complication was an ulcer which was caused by low dose aspirin and an iron deficiency. I can't wait for my surgiversary on 11/9....I already know what I am doing on that day....meeting my "angel", Cheryl in Los Angeles, we are celebrating our surgiversaries together and buying something we can't afford on Rodeo Drive!

Keep up the good work, keep losing and feel great!

Congrats.
