My surgeon dropping my insurance

I am post op and just got a letter from my insurance company that as of October 1st they will no longer be a participating provider. I am annoyed to say the least. What I would like is consistency, like that is ever gonna happen! I understand that it is all about dollars and cents, but do they ever think that patients will still need follow up care. So now what am I to do? Find another surgeon, hopefully one with similar philosophies. I am relatively new post op and really do not relish the idea of learning how to play this game by some one else's rules. I am looking for referrals from real people. So please if you love your surgeon and don't think that their rules for post op are that difficult to follow please let me know. I live in Carteret and currently travel to Hackensack to see the surgeon. I will call my insurance, which by the way is Oxford, to see where they recommend that I go. I thank all of you in advance.

You might also try talking to Dr. Trivedi himself. From what I have heard from friends who had their surgeries with him, he is a nice guy. He might be able to refer you to someone he is "friendly" with. And what about "out of network benefits"? Is that something that might be available ?

You can also try and do out of pocket with a payback from the insurance company. My surgeon doesn't accept my insurance, so I pay out of pocket and my insurance company sends me a check in the mail.

For the time being you can request a letter of extended care. I did this when my surgeon stopped taking my insurance. Make sure you advise the Dr's staff you are doing this so they can keep any eye out for your letter.  My Dr. never responded however he has decided to take what they pay. I am constantly reminded why I love my Dr.

Hi
I also had the same situation with my surgeon ... he dropped my insurance (Oxford) as of last May ... at this point I will see him but once a year and he agreed to a lower out of pocket cost for the appointment for me so that I can continue to be his patient. Give this a try with your Doctor.

This happened to me too with Dr. Abkin.  His office no longer accepts Cigna.  I thought I was in trouble because I couldn't afford to pay out of pocket but it ended up that his office visits were only $60 and my copay for him was $45 anyway.  Only a $15 dollar difference.  But if something goes wrong and I have a problem related to the surgery I'm not sure what to do.  Check to see how much it would cost to go to your surgeon out of pocket it might not be that bad.

My surgeon is in the same practice -- Dr. Hans Schmidt -- I'm hoping I don't receive this notice from Oxford also. Although I do remember this same situation happening about 18 months ago --  I received a letter from Oxford saying Dr. Schmidt was leaving the Network -- however, they renegotiated the contract and he remained In-Network.  I only have to see him once a year now for my RNY follow-up, but I want to use him for my hernia repair and would rather see him In-Network than have to deal with the paperwork and deductible issues.

I just got the same kind of letter from my dr., he will no longer accept Aetna. At this point I will probably only go every 6 months so I will pay out of pocket for the office visit. It really sucks, all this insurance stuff.

It does suck! I am just 4 mos out and honestly do not want to have to pay cash to see my doctor. I have an appt next week, so I will talk to him then and see what he thinks. I should not have to pay out of pocket, when we already pay so much to have the insurance. They really do get you coming and going!
