I have Horizon BC/BS and I think it took about 1 1/2 weeks for an approval....maybe less. As I have just said recently, I had an easier time getting insurance approval than I am getting a surgery date! (that's a whole other topic!) Anyway they seemed pretty quick, so good luck on a quick and speedy approval!                                                                     Judy

I have Horizon BC BS NJ HMO and my paperwork was submitted on a Monday, I had my approval on Wed. by 8:30am.  I was told when I called them that it usually takes 48 hours.  Was your paperwork submitted yet? Jackie

I have Horizon PPO and my insurance info was sent on a Friday afternoon and I had my approval on  Wednesday morning.  It was very quick for me.

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield POS I gave my surgeon my letter from my PCP a week after my April 28th initial consult.-  Saturday May 5th, so insurance would not have touched it until the 7th- the earliest. My approval letter is dated May 23rd. I know I called before the 23rd and was told I had a "number",  I was in the system and was going to be getting a letter soon. Bernadette

I had said above my package was not submitted to insirance until the first Monday in May. Being impatient myself I just found a notation I made that I called on the 15th and I was told I was in the system, was given a file number, and a letter would be coming that I was approved. It pays to record notes of calling insurance companies, etc. Bernadette

Hi again!  I am still waititng for the insurance co at Braix to "locate" some faxes, they say they arent sure they got, but I called the drs office and they say faxed.  Who knows. Trying to be patient but not getting there too fast and I am a normally impatient person. I was hoping to be on the way losing side by Christmas for family dinner.  Maybe I can still make it.  It is only July, but it only leaves me 5 months to get the surgery and start losing..........

I wish you the best of luck and quick approval!

Although I must say that it frustrated me to be told ok we will send in your paperwork and then 4 days later find out that infact it was never sent out and that they wanted more weights from me, which I made quite clear I didnt have.  I think my biggest problem is the lack of communication. I was never even told that they werent sending it in. I called about something different and was told that by someone OTHER than my contact person at Barix. ERGH!!!!

I had a consult with the surgeon on a Friday and I think he called me the following Tuesday to say I was approved. I have heard not so good things about the Barix Center....they keep you hanging a long long time and then hit you with a co-pay or program fee. You need to ask them about it. BCBS didn't charge me anything, the surgery was covered 100%. If I were you I'd shop around for another surgeon.
