Transportation Woes for Single Patients

I don't know whether this has happened to anyone here in NJ. What happens when transporation is needed?  Right now, my surgery date is tentively scheduled for Wed. August 15, 2007. I'm fine with taking a cab from my home to the hospital (Brick to A/C) but for the trip back home the following day.  What should I do?  What happens if my Plan A person doesn't commit to taking me home?   Any suggestions out there, please rsvp...

if you needed a ride on a sunday or monday i probably could have helped you - -those are my days off  any family or friends who can help with transportation  and yes it has happened to people here on the board -- one lady got a ride from another person here on the board --sadly both those people are no longer on the board  good luck roberta

Could be a good excuse for me to go to AC- hit the outlets & gamble a little.... Are you having bypass or band or other? I was in 2 nights (Dr. said one- I knew he was overly optimistic). I could be a back up. Bernadette

If you are able to, call a limousine service and get the rates for a standard car (usually a Lincoln Towncar).  They can be flexible and will pick you up at the door.  You can even check a round trip rate and get them to drive you there as well.  If you explain to the dispatcher they will probably work with you for the pick up and be flexible.  My bigger concern for you is who will be there for your support once you get home?  You know you have this board to help out but the first day you may want someone around to help you.  I felt very overwhelmed trying to get all the liquids in and making sure what I could and could not have.  It helped that I had my mom with me.  If you don't have someone close please stay close to your PC and know we are here to support you!

You might want to check with the hospital itself. They might have a van for patients who need transportation. But considering the distance, that might not be available. They might also be able to connect you with a medical transport company (like a private ambulance, not 911). Those services are often staffed by EMTs. And if not, the drivers are still used to dealing with people who aren't feeling quite well. It may even be covered by your insurance (unlike the cab or the limo).  Good luck on your journey . THE 16 I HAVE AN APPT.   THE 15 I COULD HAVE.   I LIVE 45 MIN FROM ATLANTIC CITY .   ARE YOU GOING TO THE MEDICAL CENTER?  WHAT DOCTOR DO YOU HAVE?
I ALSO HAVE REALATIVES WHO LIKE IN BRICK SO I DO KNOW THAT AREA.
IF I WAS ABLE TO HELP, I WOULD DO IT FOR NOTHING.   BUT I MIGHT BE ABLE
TO GET SOMEONE TO TAKE YOU AND COME AND GET YOU THE NEXT DAY.
BUT I WOULD NEED TO KNOW HOW MUCH YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY.
IT IS MY SISTER,  SHE LOST HER HUSBAND LAST YEAR.   SHE LIVES NEXT TO
BRICK,  AND GOES TO ATLATIC CITY QUITE OFTEN.  SO GET BACK TO ME
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GOT THAT ROUTE.   SHE COULD PROB. TAKE YOU
BOTH WAYS, BUT SHE WOULD NEED TO GET PAID FOR HER TIME, AND THE USE
OF HER CAR.   SO LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.   SHE DRIVES A
SCHOOL BUS AND DOESN'T DRIVE IN THE SUMMER.  I ALSO DRIVE A SCHOOL
BUS,  BUT I LIVE 50 MIN FROM ATLANTIC CITY.
