Hi all,     This weight loss journey has been one big roller coaster and I'm wondering if it will ever get better. I got a call from Dr Bertha's office that I need to re-schedule my surgery because as Robin said yesterday, St Peters is not yet ready for bypass pt's. This is the second surgery date I have had and still no surgery. My first date was 5/30, but because of my need to switch surgeons...I was thrilled to get 8/21 at St Peters where my co-workers would be caring for me and now I don't even have a date. I have chosen to go to Morristown but I'm not sure when yet...I'm sure it'll now be in Sept. if I'm lucky. I had less difficulity getting insurance approval than I had getting a surgery date. My testing is complete, I have a wonderful competent surgeon, I HAVE an ins. approval....but no date! Thanks for letting me vent a little. I'm really sad not so much mad. You put yourself in a certain mind set when preparing for any major life altering changes and this has certainly been one heck of a blow. Well I'm going back to sleep and when I wake up, I'll call Dr Bertha's office back and hopefully get my third and final surgery date. Thanks again for listening...........til later                                                        Judy

I'm sorry you are so jusifiably frustrated. I looked at my sugeon's profile and it said he began the bariatric program at St. Peter's. That obviously wasn't very recently..... I still find it weird what they are saying to you and wonder what the truth really is.....

Since sugeries get cancelled, be ready to accept a date sooner tha you were expecting!!!! Be ready, or mention to both your Dr. and the hospital- you would do it sooner if an opening happens.

My surgery was supposed to be 7/13 or so and was moved up to 6/21.

Best of luck and I really hope your glitches stop happening!!! Bernadette

I don't think it is that weird.  There could be a lot of reasons.  Perhaps the hospital is supposed to set up a special bariatric wing and has not done so.    I also had my date postponed but I knew from these forums that happens sometimes.  I figure it will happen when it is supposed to. Good luck.  Dr. Bertha is wonderful!

Sorry if I am soundng to cynical, but a hospital these days does NOT want to turn  away surgical patients.  No matter what the real reason- to those of you inconvenienced by these hospital changes,  I feel very badly. I just hope you get dates that work for you and get moved up if possible!!! Bernadette

Doing WLS at St Peter's is new & the set up was not to be compete until June. There have been a few set backs and they are hoping to begin in Sept.  Just be happy you have the option of going to Morristown. THAT is an EXCELLENT hospital! Best of Luck to you! I agree morristown is an excellent hospital..  Where is ST Peters? I am concerned thou that these drs are spreading themselves too thin going to so many different hospitals.. especially at the volume they do this surgery..

I looked at the reviews of St Peters and there were a lot of negative reviews.  Drs. Bertha and Adkin may have felt at this point the hospital is not quite ready for more WL patients and that their patients are better off going to Morristown or St Clares.

Hi Judy, I have my first appointment today with Dr. Bertha.  They wanted to give me an appointment for the surgery but they had nothing in August.  I have to wait till Monday for them to get the schedule for September.  I have a felling the office is calling everyone that was scheduled at St Peters first to schedule them in September before scheduling new people.  Good Luck with the new sugery date!!!  They do have dates in August for St. Clairs in Dover.

Hi Judy, I understand why you are upset.  That is why I chose St Clares instead of Morristown.  I did not want to wait until Sept for Morristown.  My coworker had her bypass done by Abkin at Morristown and she loved it there.  But I was just too inpatient.   I hope you get a date in the early part of September. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+hospital+ detail+St+Peters+University+Hospital+clp.html Hi. The first postings here regarding Baratric Surgery being done at St. Peter's by OH members are from 2002- link above. So the procedures have been done there, it is not new surgery for the hospital. . Perhaps to open a new wing for it is new....if that is what they are doing (no mention of it on their website- just th 7/12 weight loss seminar) (Just trying to be impart accurate information) Bernadette
