Hi Everyone, I have 3 days to go until my surgery,  I am so nervous, I wi**** was tuesday already because on Monday the day of my surgery would be over, and I would know if am gonna be okay.  I believe am ready I bought all the things I believe am going to be able to drink and eat the first 2 weeks.  I will be off from work for a month which is a nice vacation.  I just hope I will be okay.  I am going to take one day at a time.  What should I bring to the hospital?  Do I need a night gown, or do you continue to wear those ugly hospital gowns?  I will bring my slippers.  My feet hurt as it is from the arthritus and varicose veins I have.  I wish the next 6 months would go by.  I also can't wait to get sunday over with, I have to drink that nasty stuff before the surgery.  Well Today and tomorrow are my last days of being in this humongous body, after that I will start losing the weight.  I am just going to have faith that everything is going to be alright, any suggestions from anyone will be helpful.  Well I will let you guys know how am doing once I come back from the hospital.  So until then am praying for all of us. Good luck Melissa!!!! Don't forget the chap-stick. They throw so much anti-nausea stuff into you- your lips get ridiculously dry. I wore my Adidas sandals as my slippers. My third most used item was my hair scrunchy. My 4th was my cell. Remember post-op at home you can't lift stuff- so move anything like laundry upstairs/downstairs wherever you want it to be. Since you will most likely have an IV & noone will want to disconnect it to get your gown on- you could bring it and never get to wear it.  My husband had his Blackberry and IPOD to keep him distracted as he waited for hours.

just a repeat of what everyone else said -- basically just bring a robe and slippers and a great attitude :)  i was lucky -- i had respitory treatments -- not sure why yet -- but it kept my mouth and nose moist the whole time i was in the hospital -- so i had no complaints of a dry mouth

i never had time to use my cell phone -- i slept alot due to the morphine -- i walked when i was awake -- and i had the tv on

looking back -- everythng went smoothly :) can't complain at all  the best of luck to you :)  roberta

I brought my own gown, slippers and robe.  I knew I would not walk around right after surgery if I didn't look my best.  put the gown on, on my own. Yes, I unhooked and rehooked the IV, which I don't recommend. I also relied on my hair ties, face soap and lotion and makeup. I had tons of visitors, so I had to look my best. hehe Also, big huge comfy cotton underwear to hold your drains.

Melissa, you're going to do just fine!  I'm 7 weeks post-op today and am feeling great.  I took a short-sleeve robe and slippers and an outfit to wear home.  That was all I needed for clothing.  I didn't care about the hospital gown. lol  Take your usual hygiene things but don't forget the Chapstick!  I also took my journal but I didn't have a lot of time to write.  I took my cellphone and used it maybe twice.  I had an open RNY so our recoveries might differ.  Honestly, I was woosy on surgery day and felt great the next day.  I never had to ask for pain meds.  I got my prescription filled on the way home.  I think it's still in the original bag. It's nerve-wracking to think about the surgery but, honestly, don't make yourself crazy.  Because, if you're like a lot of us, you'll wonder why you got so worked up in the first place.  You'll do GREAT!!!!  I'll be sending my best wishes along on Monday!

Melissa~ Best wishes on Monday, this will be over in no time at all.  The worst part of the whole thing is right now.  I was a bundle of nerves the few days before surgery, it will get better the minute you wake up after it's over.  Don't forget the chap stick, that is the most valuable thing in the hospital, in my opinion anyway!  I will be praying for you Monday.
