Hello All.  I'm new to the forum and I've been doing reseach about the lap-band procedure and I was wondering if anyone had surgery performed by Dr. Ajay Goyal.  I'm considering him to do my lap-band surgery. I'm so open for suggestions or recommendations.  If being a "loser" means having a better life for myself then I'm all for it!! Thanks Keisha

I had a consult with him. My insurance wouldn't cover him so I did not use him. I did like him though and I was planning to use him. Best of luck!

He is a nice and good looking doctor. I had a consult with him but ruled him out because he also has an office in Hoboken and I didn't want to have to drive there if I had an emergency. Also, he does not go to his patient support groups and the one I attended only had 4 people there so that turned me off big time. Also, his office staff upped my BMI on paper which I did not like. But I thought he was a nice person and well qualified....a co worker's son and daughter in law used Dr. Goyal and were very pleased. Good luck.

Thanks guys for your input. I was wondering because as I looked and read the many posts on the message boards I've seen a lot of people who used the same dr. like for instance Dr. Bertha or Dr. Nausbaum(sp?) but I haven't come across anybody that had Dr. Goyal do their surgery.  I was considering him as my first choice being he's convenient for me to see him in both Union, NJ as well as Hoboken(I'm originally from Jersey City and my mom still lives there.).  I've checked out his website www.njbariatriccenter.com .  I just want to be among the best at what they do. My life is basically in their hands. I want the best care that NJ Horizon BC/BS PPO can provide and a top notch surgeon to get the job done with little to no complications. Thanks again, guys.

I want to give you a "heads-up" about Horizon NJ - check w/ them first regarding your policy to see if you need to see a Nutritionist for 6 months prior to surgery.  I learned the hard way with them.  I saw my surgeon 1 year ago today and haven't had my surgery because Horizon NJ denied my surgery stating that I need to see a Nutritionist for at least 6 months.  I have my last appointment tomorrow and they better damn approve me now!  They also didn't pay the claims for my visits, until I fought them and told them "hey, you were the ones in the first place that told me I had to see the "nut" and now you're not going to pay for my visits"? I DON'T THINK SO!! Now they have paid for them! Good Luck!

HI, Keisha  I will be getting  my surgey with Dr. goyal he is very nice and goes through alot of important information with you one on one. He  is  very well spoken and even tells you that you can call him if you have any more questions that come to mind. HIs office is busy and  sometimes you feel they rush you  but once you get in his office you feel relaxed and he explains the diffrent procedures so you can decide and his seminar is wonderful.  I also got approved in one week I was so glad.  ILL keep you posted after I come out my procedure  for August 1,07 im excited. If you have anymore questions feel free to respond. Take care and good luck from Melinda

I recommend Dr. Chau. Here's the link-- http://www.njbariatricspc.com/doctors/chau.asp they have a great support group--and he has done lap band over 500 times. he works for Dr. Robert Brolin--if you google his name you'll see he is one of the original surgeons--he has been doing wls for over 30 years! the office is on Rt. 1 in Monmouth Junction (south brunswick) Jill

Eileen, Melinda, Jill: Thanks. Oh...I've spoken to my PCP and he's recommended a nutritionist for me, but I have to see if he/she is in my insurance in-network.  Eileen I've heard so many people go through the run around with Hor. BC/BS PPO thanks for giving me the heads up. Its like pulling teeth without novacaine with Hor. BC/BS PPO. for them to get the ball rolling only to get knocked down.  What's their problem?  I pay into my insurance and I've been on the job for over 7 years as I'm sure most of us pay into it, but BC/BS PPO act as if you OWE them something. Well I'm hoping for best with them, but expecting the worst.

Melinda, I'll be thinking of you on Aug. 1. And please do keep me posted. Jill: Thanks for the info.

Horizon lue Cross/Blue Shield POS approved me as medically neccesary.. My first consult was 4/28 and surgery 6/21/07. It could be because I went out of network for a surgeon I knew had operated on friends.
