Dr. Bartha
Dr. Bertha did my surgery at Morristown Memorial Hospital. I am very happy with the results. I do like him as a doctor and was impressed with his surgical skill. He is very personable but is not the warm, fuzzy type if that is what you want in a doctor - some people do. His office is always very busy so many people use the time there as a mini support group, talking to each other and comparing notes. It is a good idea to bring a list of questions with you so you won't forget whatever you might want to ask him. Good luck. Wilma
Thanks for the information. I love Morristown because my mother has had surgery there many times. I also know my way around that hospital. The seminar I went to was for St. Clairs in Dover and was seeing if anyone had surgery there. Do you know if he required any other test besides blood work for your surgery?
Unless things have changed you'll have all of your pre-op testing done across the street from the hospital. There was a lot of blood work and a cardiogram. No running around - the same person did it all in one exam room. It was very easy.
I'm sure the other pre-op requirements are the same - clearance from a nutritionist and the person that does your Psych evaluation.
My friend who is a cardiac technician at Morristown advised me not to go to St. Clarie's in Dover. What he requires pre-op depends on a few things and is individual. Since I am almost 50 he wanted a screening colonoscopy, mammogram, recent gyno visit and bloodwork. I am going for my pre-op class on Wednesday and what, if anything else, he will require.

That is one practice I will not be using. I know someone who wound up with severe complications (which can happen to anyone as we all know), but she was treated terribly and was pretty much abandoned by them. Knowing her, and how she was treated, I am looking at 2, maybe 3 other practices in NJ.
I agree with Considering_It - I had problems with Dr Bertha. I had an appt with him and discussed ALL my medical issues and was told to lose 20 pounds before going for all the necessary appointments. I did a stress test & Cardiac, phsyc & nutrition appts, and pulmonary - got all the necessary letters from my doctors. With everything in hand and 30 pounds lighter, I made another appointment with Dr. Bertha.
When I got there I was told that he decided NOT to do my surgery because of one of the medical conditions - which we discussed on my first visit.
They are suppose to be helping people but I wonder if they only help the ones that are pretty much guaranteed 100% success rather than those of us *****ally NEED it.
Now I have to PAY for all these tests again if I can find another surgeon because my insurance company will only cover some of them once (like nutrition & phsyc).
Either way - GOOD LUCK!!!! I wish you all the best in your journey. I hope you have smooth sailing!
