St. Barnabas Support Group Update

Hi there....I called to verify whether we'd be having a July support group and was told YES INDEED we will be. It'll be for all of us, i.e. RNY and Lap band regardless of when you had surgery. Meeting: Wednesday July 18th at 6pm in the normal conference room at that Ambulatory Care Center Hope to see you there! Sadie

Hi :) I plan on attending the Informational Meeting w/ Dr. Nussbaum, and staying for the Support Group...I was told that was okay by the office person I spoke too...Maybe I'll get to meet you?

Do you know if the St Barnabas group is open to anyone..  I mean I didn't have my surgery there but was interested in attending --could I... ?

Hi Donna! I've attended a support group meeting at the ACC, and know several people who attend that didn't have surgery there.  It's been a while since I attended, but as far as I know it's still open to everyone. Irene

Hi there,  My date was just scheduled with Dr. Nusbaum on 8/16/07....I am so excited and nervous...Just curious, what do they cover in this support group, I am a newbie!  Thanks!!!!

Well let me start by saying you've got a GREAT surgeon. I've heard many stories of things gone wrong but never from one of Dr. N's patients. First off, either Dr. Bilof or Dr. Nusbaum usually come the the group for at least a few minutes to answer questions. Second, there is usually a topic. Last month's meeting had a speaker, a plastic surgeon named Dr. Lalla who educated and answered questions. If there isn't a specific topic, the nutritionist will ask for questions or concerns from the group which is usually at least 25 people. All are welcome. There are several pre-ops who come, many with over a year out who have lost over 100 pounds, and folks like me who are 3 months out and happy as can be to have had surgery. Hi Sadie, Thanks!  I really appreciate your feedback.  Yes, I am totally thrilled I have found Dr. Nusbaum.  He is a class act who I trust.  I am quite nervous yet doing tons of research which does seem to calm the nerves.  My only concern with going to a support group initially was that it might focus on the negative or the complaints...Though from what you are saying it does sound like a positive informative place to go.  I am planning on attending, thanks again for your response!
